5 - 10%? Maybe on the older consumer displays. All microdisplays (LCD, DLP, LCoS) have overscan of less than 5%. The 360 could also be underscanning on SD, which is what the PS2 does. If your PS2 fills up your widescreen TV you are lucky. Sony just didn't code it well. Of course the problem might just be that the dashboard settings are wrong or the TV's user menu settings are zooming or stretching the picture. Who knows.

As for the resolution question, all 360 games are native 720p. The 1080i setting, which I use on my 1080p SXRD, is just upscaled 720p. Probably all next gen games will be native 720p, solely because it's a progressive signal. Interlaced signals are only used by HD programming to save bandwidth, since they only have to send half the signal.

PGR doesn't have 1080 graphics but the conversion to 1080i is done by the 360 as long as your HDTV settings are set for it. I haven't really noticed any difference in PGR3 and my other 360 games on my 1080i CRT.

I suppose techinacally, if your TV had 720p native resolution but accepted a 1080i signal you could play PGR3, set your 360 to 1080i, and let your TV convert it back. Anyone tried this and compared the picture to what it is when the 360 is set to 720p? Does the conversion make for a noticibly worse picture than just playing it on 720p?

His TV is a 65% rear projection though, which means it has overscanning, I would almost guarantee it.

            thanks
            All 360 games are rendered in 720p, minus PGR3..But all 360 games support 480p & 1080i..

Your last statment is incorrect, but I'm not here to argue.. To the author of the thread. It's not your TV's fault..It's MS fault.. For whatever reason, a lot of CRT owners have severe overscan during some 360 games..The only solution is to go into the service menu & 'tweak' it.. I have a 26inch CRT & the overscan on NFS is awful.. On my LCD it's fine..720p & 1080i.. & the reason why MS went with 720p is the fact that most fixed pixel displays have a native resolution of 720, & none have a native resolution of 1080i.. & native resolution 1080i displays, aka, CRT's are being pushed to the back of the line..

I've used a 30" HDTV CRT Samsung in 1080I since day ONE and played just about every 360 game made either through buying, borrowing or rental and NEVER had one graphical hiccup or issue so I think this overscan "problem" is a bunch of crap. It's what TV you buy and the quality of it, not whether it's CRT or not.

Anyone have a Toshiba rear projection (Mine is the 57H84)? I'd like to know if the games are fine on 1080i with that type of set. Thanks

Yes, 1080i is the way to go. It looks much better than 720p for me.

I started looking into the whole PC side of it, and to get it to play well on my PC I'm not only going to have to buy a new video card, but a newer power supply as well. I'd probably end up spending a good chunk just to play it on a 17" monitor. I'd rather play on my tv and other games will come out soon enough. It gets opened after church tonight.

Yeah some people are all of a sudden video technophiles overnight after reading a couple wikis and the Audio Video Science forums lol. Some people have no idea what they are even talking about.

I run all my 360 games via 1080i and I noticed an improvement over 720p. It's worth Casey.
