    MS answer to Blue Ray?

    OMG....(sorry if this is old)

Just read in the new OXM that MS just inked a deal with DirecTV. Rumor has it that you may be able to download Hidef movies through XBL. I don't have many details yet, but wow...why would you need a high def player when you can just d/l hidef movies from Direct TV.

Not t mention the DVR capabilities.

and oh yeah it will take you damn near forever to download the movies. And if MS would have made the HDD compatible with whats on the market instead of a proprietary(sp) drive amongst other logistical nightmares,

I don't see how this is an answer to Blu-ray.

Not evryone wants a $300 add-on when I can set up a d/l before I leave for work, and have the movie on my drive when I get home. With this and SD vs Raw coming to the 360, I might just be able to hold off on the PS3 for a few years. I was willing to keep one just for the BR player...this is no longer neccesary.

Also, I don't really understand the fuss about d/l time when it takes most folks over an hour to drive to Walmart, pick up a movie, pay for it and drive back home anyway. It's not like a BR movie is going to magically appear in your lap....AND I don't need a cutting edge HDMI connect to watch the flicks.

Download time shouldn't be horrible with a good connection (although I guess that depends on one's definition of horrible ). It'll be pretty fast for those with FiOS though.

However, a larger hard drive would certainly be a necessity. The current drive won't last long enough if MS is thinking about doing this.

HD-DVD & Blue Ray are both going the way of laser disc. Streaming HD media is the next leap. The masses just won't run out and buy $500-1000 movie players, and $30-40 movies when they are completely content with current gen DVD's.

Re: MS answer to Blue Ray?

I figure it like this. If DVDs are around $20 now, BR & HD are about $30+, and M$ makes their streaming movies about $10-15 to keep and do with it what we want, then hell, I'm all for it. I'd be down for it on the real. I definitely will not be buying that attachment on the real. Not my type of flow. I just wish that they had their more space available on their disc for future gaming possibilities.

By the way, is Blu Ray suppose to be their format for video games at anytime? I'm out of touch with the PS3. COD 2 has just been giving me a hell of a weekend.

Re: MS answer to Blue Ray?

All PS3 games are supposed to be on Blu-Ray discs.

There is no answer to Blu-Ray for Microsoft's Xbox. They chose to not have an HD-Drive or Blu-Ray drive (obviously they weren't going to have one, but just saying) in their machine and that's the choice they made. The only answer they could have would be to release a new model of the 360 with an HD-DVD drive, but that is highly unlikely. Whether a lack of an HD-DVD drive will hurt them or not in the future is a matter of opinion at this point.

                            Damn, you must be secluded.

I can do all of that in roughly 10.

Marketing tool for Sony: We've got a built-in hi def dvd player!

ANSWER from MS: Ehhh...you can download the same hi-def movies on xbl, without paying extra for Sony's Trojan Hor...errr...I mean dvd player. Now you can have both...keep and enjoy yor current movies, and watch hi-def versions for a fraction of the cost.

Sony: But we can fit more game info on our disks!

Most developers: Ehhh...no one is going to come close to that ammount of content, most multi plat devs are going to lead on the 360, and if by some chance, some developers decide to lead on the Cell, the 360 may have a handful of 2 disk games by the end of this gen.

Sony: See! 2 disks...bwah haa haa!

MS: Yeah, multiple disks just KILLED the Final Fantasy series. LOL.

Sony: ....... B-B-But Blu-Ray allows 300 fps and a new 4th dimension! And its emotional! And we might pack in the HDD (depending on the market? WTF) And it can cut PERFECT french fries every time!

Yeah Ken...we know. Sony is known for failed "revolutionary" media formats. Betas, Walkman mini-disks, UMD movies. This may not be the "answer" to Blu Ray, but it definitely makes the decision to stick with the 360 easier, epecially if (when) the PS3 comes in at 600 bucks (Why not? They'll be so limited in the first year, they'd sell through every single unit they could crank out even at 1000 bucks...and that steep tag would cultivate the perception that the PS3 is much, much, much better than the 360.)
