    Microsoft acquires Lionhead Studios

"We could not be more excited about being part of MGS. They have long supported our creative vision, and this teamwork resulted in the hugely successful 'Fable' franchise," said Molyneux, managing director of Lionhead Studios. "This acquisition gives Lionhead the stability and opportunity to focus on creating world-class next-generation titles. We are joining some of the most incredible game creators in the industry, the combined talent of which will truly take next-generation gaming to a new level."

This sounds good. I hope they bring back BC too.

      Good pickup by Microsoft.

Does anyone have a link that says what was supposed to be in fable?

Funniest question EVER!! It might sound serious but just reading it all in order just made me laugh. I'd be surprised if there's a link that shows up. On another note, WTF is BC??

I don't get what's funny but there was something that I saw awhile ago that talked about what was supposed to be in fable but I don't know where it was.

Just that I've never saw it and it's the first time I've heard it. I thought it was kind of a sarcastic type of question. Almost sounded like......never mind. The mood died.

Three things Lionhead had planned for Fable would have made the game revolutionary.

                        1) You physically changed i.e. "Grew Up" in realtime. So lets say you started the game off as a kid, as the game progressed your hands and body parts would begin to change as they would in real life from a kid to a grown up all in real time.

The problem Lionhead was having was there wasn't enough processing power in the Xbox to calculate human growth. For example grabbing a door handle or ingame object with a kids hand is different than grabbing the same object is much different with a larger hand as you begin to grow as an adult.

Maybe they could pull this off with the 360 since it has 3 CPU's with 2 symetrical threads.

                        2) As you grew older in the game you eventually died BUT if you had children the game would continue thru them and you would continue to play the game thru thier eyes. They would also share your looks and characteristics. So if you were a bad@ss in the game chances are they would not be nice kids starting off in the game although you could make them to grow up to be good.

The game would be open ended if you wanted it to as the game would always continue if you had chose to have offspring.

                        3) The game was planned to include an Xbox Live world sort of like an MMO.

Back in 2002 TechTV had previews and reports of this game and what Lionhead's vision would be. Unfortunately Lionheads plans were too agressive and it cost too much in development cost and time.

Microsoft got tired of waiting for this game which was in development for 3-4 years and had them strip the game to it's barebones and so it was released in it's current form.

The best way to describe the original Fable would be an MMO version of Oblivion with a sprinkle of Harvest Moon where you had children and you continued to play the game thru them.

I believe Flaw was referring to Magic Carpet. Here's an article Peter Molyneux's creations.
