I'm like 12 or 13 missions into Blazing Angels and rarely have any problems. Suddenly I come to a mission that goes something like this:
"Protect the Allied Bombers and destroy an airport".
OK, easy enough right? Not!
You get near the airport (after enduring a cutscene with the squad jaw-jacking with the bomber wing), you see something like 40 zeroes on the ground getting ready to lift off. To help that out, there are 7 or 8 separate AA emplacements. Moving AA vehicles, bunkered AA guns, you name it.
The wings of zeroes start moving onto the runway and I get "blow up the runway now, don't let those fighters launch!".
OK, but they're like 1/2 mile away and already launching. OK, I'll just shoot 'em down. By the time I finish those off, here comes 6 more. Then 6 more. And more. I'm so busy getting shot to hell and mixing it up with fighter wings that the bombers reach the airport....and get shredded by the AA.
If I focused on the AA, the fighters would absolutely rip through the bombers. No matter what I did, I failed...twenty-three times! Twenty-three times of seeing the same cutscene, the same 30-second approach, etc. I even shelved the game for a few days out of frustration, and I rarely get "stuck" in games. Just ridiculous how difficult that mission is compared to the rest before (and after) it.
Anybody else have any problems with that mission? I finally figured out how to beat it (thanks to cracking the instruction manual and learning about squad commands that I hadn't even needed up until that point hehe), but I can't imagine that's an "easy" mission for anybody playing this game.
Or am I just a complete idiot? That's also a distinct possibility...
Maybe my reflexes are just dwindling with my old age. Somebody tell me I'm not alone on the difficulty of this mission!!!!
