Should I Buy the Core System?

I don't need wireless controllers and won't have a HD TV for at least another two years (I'm not buying one in Hawaii and then try to move it back to the states!). I tried Xbox Live but don't have the time for online play. I spend almost all my gaming playing franchise modes in baseball and football. It seems like a core system and the memory drive is all I would need.

    Am I missing something?

I don't want to regret the purchase. I am planning on buying Oblivion and 2k6 baseball next week. Can I enjoy those on the core system?

The core system was designed for gamers like you. You may even find you might not need a HD at all. If you're not downloading demos or interested in playing Xbox games on your 360, ripping music, downloading games from Xbox Live Arcade you might consider going with a memory card which is 64 meg. Oblivion and MLB2K6 will work on a core system.

Bottom line is I would get a core unit if I were you.

p.s. you can always buy a HD later if you find out you need it.

With Oblivion you'll just have slower load times without the Hard Drive.

Honestly, the Core system is a really good choice for you.
You can always save up and get the HD in a couple months. Which is the only thing I'd reccomend.

i've got a premium system, but believe it or not, I'm playing with a wired controller instead. I personally like the feel and weight of it more so than the wireless one. Plus I don't have to worry about it dying out on me.

Get you a Core system, a memory card (or splurg for the HD) and don't worry about anything else but the games. You'll enjoy the system a lot.

the beauty of the play and charge kit works wonders for me

but yeah, get the core and save up for an HD later.

I would say no, because the HDs are $99, so by getting the premium system you'd get it with the 360, instead of buying it later and spending more money.

Plus the memory units are about $40 I believe so you if are going to spend half the money you might as well go all the way and get 100x the space.

Even though you say you don't care for wireless controllers and XBL it's always nice to at least have for "free" considering a core + HD would be the same prices as the premium system.

Also XBL has a free "Silver" service in which you can download game demos/trailers, plus download upgrades/patches to existing games. So its worth it to have a HD for that too.

Bottom line I would say get the Premium, it'll be cheaper in the long run.

I agree with you. For the extra $60, it's well worth it because you might decide later that the HDD is what you want. I'm saying extra $60 because you will spend $40 on the Memory Card.

XBL Silver is great so far which allows you to download demos and patches which is fantastic. I downloaded Tomb Raider last night and thought the game was great. If I never tried the demo, I would still be wondering how it turned out and it would have cost me $8 for a rental at Blockbuster.

Plus if you get a HDTV in the next 2 years, you will have the component cables needed which you won't be spending another $40+ later on for the cables.

            Go with the Premium.

Out of the original 20gb, anyone know how much useable space you have? How much space do your BC games take up (because I have quite a few)? How big are demos? Thanks

You have 13gb out of the 20. BC games don't use up much space at all.

Demos can range from 300mb to 600mb in size.

Ok thanks. Glad to hear about the BC games not taking up much. I probably have 13 XBox games I want to keep (mostly because I haven't finished them yet).

Out of curiosity, what takes up that 7gb? It must just be stuff that you get with the premium system as obviously the Core system runs without a HD.

I can't remember, but it is things that are needed for the system to run with the HDD.

Re: Should I Buy the Core System?

I don't play online or download stuff from the internet and I have a core, only b/c I had no choice b/c I got mine at launch. IF you can get a premium get it b/c the hard drive alone is gonna cost you 100 bucks which ads up to the price of a premium. I also don't have Hdtv but the premium is worth it. Since I got my core I have bought a wireless controller, play & charge Kit and a Hardrive. When I do finally get HDTV I will have to spend more money to get those wires. The hardrive is good to b/c you can watch the halftime replays in Nba 2k6 and Mlb 2k6 is gonna have blooper playback which will only work with the hard drive. My point is even if you aren't gonna use those things right away or maybe never it well worth the extra 100 dollars.

For now I would say get the CORE... If you want to upgrade later you can & it won't cost ya any extra.(CORE $299/PREMIUM $399) HD $99.00 seperate. The only thing you'll be missing is the chance to play old xbox games on your CORE because you need the HD for that.

Well, all I could find on this isolated island was a bundle at Costco. It was the full package with an extra wireless controller, wireless charger, and PG3 racing. I fired up the PG and the Live arena is incredible! I might like playing online. Everybody was friendly and having fun. All I found playing Madden online was a bunch of children talking dumb and going for it on every 4th down.

Planning to sell the unopened controller, charger, and the PG3 on eBay. I won't need them. Picked up Oblivion and I'm about to descend into the realm of the RPG. I hope to surface sometime Tuesday for the release of baseball!

                            Thanks for the advice, dudes.
