My xbox has been making this loud annoying clicking sound and will freeze frequently especially when the clicking sound is going on. I think it may be the hard rive but I am not sure. Anyone else have this problem or have any suggestions?

Yep, disc drive. Is your Xbox old, such as from 2002 or before? Chances are you have a Thomson drive that has reached the end of the line.Originally posted by psufan
Same thing happened to me late last year. I replaced the old Thomson with a Samsung drive that I bought on eBay for $60. Xbox works like the proverbial charm, and it's a hell of a lot cheaper than buying a new Xbox.
The process is not hard. I'm no mechanical genius and did the drive swap in 30 minutes.
