At least until the format war is settled. This has the potential to be BetaMax all over again. Sony has continually tried to push their propriatary formats on the world, with little success. This appears to be yet another attempt.
I see the PS3 as a glorified BETAMAX or LASERDISC type of machine where only people at the time had the money to spend on players that ran from $700 to $1500. The movies ranged from $55 to $120.

Like Kojima said with the PS3, it's like that dinner that you go and spend accouple hundred dollars at one time once a year. You only do it once a year.

Even if PS3 comes out at $600 in the US and let's say $700 in Canada, I think it would still sell out during the launch period.

I can't see many parents buying it for Timmy and Jimmy though. Once you throw in taxes, an extra controller, and a few games, the price reaches a grand.

It's obvious Sony is banking on BR becoming mainstream and wiping out HD-DVD's.

I would like to see a wide poll on how many people are actually happy with the current regular DVD format for movies. I'm willing to bet at least 70% of people are happy as it is.

I'm a video and audiophile.....I don't really think there is a need for HD-DVD or Blu Ray at this point. DVD's have finally started to hit their stride and getting people to jump aboard the DVD format at first took some work until the players & movies came down in price. To me, this is another wasted technology that is not going to take over the DVD format.

This has been argued to death, don't you all agree? No one knows the price, the price will either be revealed at E3 or sometime in September, until then, let's just assume it's going to be $299 or higher. Other than that we don't know. Locked.
