Xbox 360 hard drive reformatting - WHY ???

I noticed on another forum some discussion around people reformatting their 360 hard drive to take care of some problem (related to College Hoops 2K6 for the 360). Does anyone know why this is neccessary??? Does it help reduce or eliminate the screen freezes ??

My 360 will freeze up on me atleast once a night, sometimes more. This will happen on many different games, not just one. I'm running the new Nyko Intercooler and my box is sitting in a well ventilated area (FYI).

Anybody else having freezes ?? Any suggestions...........

Sounds like you need to call Microsoft and send it back.

the college hoop formatting was due to a lot of us having problems playing online. the patch they released screwed it up even more so we couldn't play offline either. the only option to fix it was to save your files on a memory card (if you wanted to) and format the hard drive. it didn't have anything to do with the system freezing.

my system freezes every now and then, but it isn't a major concern at this time. i'd send it back to microsoft if it's causing you a lot of problems.
