I was listening to this weeks 1up podcast, and one of the guys said EA is going to show off some new animation technology at E3.

The part is at the 26:45 mark

I doubt it is for Madden like people are hoping though. Although I hear they are working with two physics engines don't expect to see them soon. Maybe next year.

            Ho hummmm..... yawn... :O

I guess those videos just don`t get me excited. I want to see better AI in sports games. I`m what you might call a stats and strategy junkie and I think all those extra physics aren`t going to mean ***T without AI thats well above average. It just seems like eye-candy more than anything else.

"Whooo hooo... he just tackled someone using all kinds of physics..."

            YAWN....

I mean, how many of us have played a basketball game and the whole team just stands around in the half-court and DOESN`T move like real basketball players do in an actual game? They don`t try to get open for a pass or run plays or nothing... they just stand there.

Or how many of us have played a football game and lineman or halfbacks DO NOT block the correct guy and it results in a sack? What about all those glitches you can exploit when you play sports games online. **sighs**

Physics are nice but I want to see better AI on the next gen games! Let`s just see if they can make good use out of those physics besides just eye-candy. I could definitely see how advanced physics could be used to create better RESULTS (or stats) in sports game but if its used just for eye-candy, i`m not interested...

all true... but... in reading that Indiana Jones article I found that it really discusses AI in the sense of the physics being able to offer incredible on-the-fly reactions by the AI players.

so it (at least LucasArts version of it) is a combo of both AI and physics working together to make games behave more realistically.

Why does it have to be an either/or? And why wouldn't you like realistic physics just because some games don't have great ai?

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)

Well I suppose it doesn`t have to be either or... it could be a crap game with great physics if thats ALL you want.

It really depends on HOW its used. If its mainly used for gawking at players during a tackle animation and saying "wow, look at that tackle"... what good is it? I don`t control how players are tackeld in a videogame. At this point I have no use for eye-candy in videogames. I want better GAMEPLAY and more ways to customize the game more than anything else. I`m not going to shell out money on a next gen system just because we see better graphics and BIGGER hits in a football game.

But like I said before, better physics COULD potentially be used to make the gameplay better. It just depends on what they do with. Unfortunately, sports gamers have become more interested in BIG hits and BIG blocks and fancy moves more than stats and strategy.
