I understand what you're saying. People are going to buy whatever makes them happy. I'm upset with Sony. I went from being undecided to Sony making my decision for me. They've put too much stake in a technology that may never take off. I don't buy VIDEOGAME systems to watch movies. I had a Playstation and a PS2 on launch day. This year is a different story. I am looking forward to the Wii. Nintendo has me very excited.

That's not a good sign.
Originally posted by Ervyou do realize there would be no splinter cell without Metal Gear? If you say the games aren't innovative, look at the cheat codes/secrets of MGS3 at gamefaqs. None of that type of stuff is present in the SC titles.
About 99% of the games released today are copycats of another game that we've all probably played on our NES. The only things that have really changed are the graphics and controls.
It's still the same premise in almost every game.
I loved Hitman2. But now I can't even entertained for more than 10 minutes with any of the 14 sequels it has.
Halo was fun for me, primarily because I've never really played any FPS's before. I liked Halo 2 but it was pretty much the same. The one thing I did love about it is the multiplayer which some friends of mine play from time to time.
I'm not trying to trash PS3 or 360 or Nintendo, only that I wish these guys would think 'outside' the box once in a while when thinking of a new game. And making a new controller that knows when it's upside down is not what I'm talking about.
It would be nice if we could go a whole decade without an upgrade in hardware. It would force, and give time to the programmers, to really get into how to make some interesting games. By the time they get past wooing us with graphics the next new "big thing" is out and they have to start over.Last edited by Money99; 05-11-2006, 02:52 PM.Comment

What I am saying is that maybe MGS was innovative 8 years ago but what's so innovative about it or any of the other spy games out there now?

Re: MGS 4 - simply breathtaking
but the same exact thing can be said for TV, music, movies, etc. Its just the nature of the beast... there's no way to be extremely innovative, its just a rehash of something someone else has done.
In all mediums, every now and then something new will be done but you can still say "well, that was influenced by 'such and such' and that was done over 40 years ago". Its just like the South Park episode of "Simpsons did it... Simpsons did it."Comment

Originally posted by Ervwell you should stop complaining then.
That's the most juvenile and assinine argument I've ever heard.
I see that since you're a member of OS you play sports games. So I guess you've been 100% satisfied by every sports game you've ever made? Seeing as you're not a programmer that would mean that if you have complained, you have no right because you don't know how to make a game yourself.
Attention everyone! From now on, unless you've ever created or directed the creation of a sports game, you are no longer allowed to complain about any game ever again! If you do, I want to see the source code to how you can fix it, otherwise be quiet!
That is all, Erv has spoken.

But like Erv said, I can't write music so I have no right to bash any of it. And I better not hear any man complain about his woman either. If you don't have a vagina you can't complain about someone that does!Last edited by Money99; 05-12-2006, 05:49 AM.Comment
