    Shadowrun Backstage Pass

I downloaded this from Live and must say I was very unimpressed. The graphics seemed so-so and the focus was on multiplayer. I found nothing in that video that made me think of the Shadowrun universe. I want a Shadowrun game that puts me in the middle of a fantastic world with great adventures. Instead I seem to be getting a multiplayer FPS that is only Shadowrun in name alone. I would have rather seen a World of Warcraft type Shadowrun game than this.

    Thoughts?

FASA screwed Shadowrun up. They made it a team-based FPS.

A team based FPS? Umm, yeah...

What made Shadowrun a success on the SNES was its setting and the fact that it was ahead of its time. Making it a team based FPS just lumps it in with all of the other crap as Shadowrun's setting isn't unique these days.

Shadowrun on the SNES was boss. I only played it for a limited time at a friend's house, but it was easily the best SNES game I've ever played. I later bought it for Nomad/Genesis, but it wasn't as good.

I thought the SNES version was ok, but I loved the Genesis Version. Probably One of genesis' top 5 games of all time

It still sucks we're not getting a Shadowrun RPG, but I've still been following this game, and it's been getting a lot praise the past several months. I also have a sneaky feeling Shadowrun will be under $50.

Video Q&A: Talking Shadowrun with Mitch Gitelman
The general manager of FASA Studios talks about the cross-platform PC and Xbox 360 shooter Shadowrun and the challenges of designing an ambitious FPS.

Yeah, if you're a typical first-person-shooter fan like I am, you've probably read some strange things about Shadowrun. Casting spells? Tree of life? Elves, dwarfs and trolls, oh my! Get your hands on this fast and fun little fantasy-shooter and you'll quickly get over any fantasy RPG qualms you have. It's fun.
For those of you worried that the point-and-clickers have an advantage, stop worrying. We console brethren held our own, and surprisingly won the majority of matches.

                  Gamespot

Shadowrun is a first- or third-person action game set in an alternate universe where magic and technology mix. The focus of the game is round-based multiplayer action, sort of like Counter-Strike, but with magical abilities and tech items that allow for a much more dynamic experience. In Shadowrun, you can see and teleport through walls, turn into a puff of smoke so bullets can't hurt you, hurl a gust of wind that disperses that smoke, summon magical minions to slay your enemies, enable hyperreflexes that let you move faster than others, and much more. Players will select from one of four magical races, each with its advantages and disadvantages, and they'll fight for the RNA Corporation, a high-tech organization, or the Lineage, the defenders of the magical temple that's the source of conflict in the game.
Though we've played Shadowrun on numerous occasions at this point, we remain impressed by the depth in the game.
The bad news is that those looking for evidence that one control scheme is superior than the other may be disappointed. As far as we can tell, it's pretty much a wash between the mouse and keyboard and the game controller.

Well, after playing quite a few full games, we’re happy to inform you that not only is the game perfectly balanced, it’s also a blast to play. Now, I know what you’re probably saying right about now. “But Will,” you’re yelling at your screen, “what about the fact that this isn’t the same Shadowrun that I know and love?” While I understand where you’re coming from, you should know that I was never that into the franchise in any of its myriad forms. Sure, I played and enjoyed the Genesis game, and I can appreciate the fact that many of the fans out there are dying to play a new Shadowrun RPG, not some shooter with seemingly loose ties to the universe.

Although I may not be well versed in all things Shadowrun, I do know a thing or two about inventive shooters, exciting multiplayer action, and good old fashioned fun, three things that the game has in spades. After playing through a number of the tutorial levels (there’s no true single-player game, and you’ll only play bots while you’re learning), we decided to challenge the PC users to a match. They were boasting that there was no way we could beat them, but they quickly quieted down once we beat them handily in the first two games. It was impossible to tell that they were playing with the traditional mouse/keyboard setup, and it really felt like everyone was on a level playing field.

Despite its various controversial aspects among certain groups of gamers, based on my experience with the game so far, Shadowrun remains a creative and well crafted multiplayer shooter. Abilities such as teleportation, which at first seem to make gameplay overly haphazard, are actually very well integrated and quickly become a crucial part of movement. Other more minor skills have their own less obvious uses, and it is likely that a frequent topic of internet forums will be how to combine them in new ways to strategic effect. For example, one developer pointed out two combinations involving the gust skill, which is fairly unassuming when used on its own. A player might cast a group of strangle crystals, which damage players who come in contact with them, then gust an opponent directly into the patch. Skilled players can also practice throwing a grenade and gusting it, greatly increasing its potential distance.

All in all, my outlook on Shadowrun remains essentially unchanged from that of last September. The game's appropriateness to its source material is an open debate, and one I am ill-equipped to address, but as its own game it is refreshingly inventive and seemingly quite well executed.

                          Gamespy's Hands-On Impressions

Microsoft's much-maligned Shadowrun shooter might just wind up being the most innovative FPS of 2007.

When Microsoft first announced Live Anywhere at E3 2006, it also brought along a title to show the merits of its cross-platform multiplayer initiative: an FPS based on the world of Shadowrun. However, Shadowrun's initial showing was met with disappointment by many: fans of the franchise had hoped for a traditional RPG rather than a first-person shooter, and the game itself simply didn't look up to scratch with other PC and 360 titles. Nine months later, GameSpy was invited to an exclusive press showing to see how Shadowrun has been coming along. We'll say right now that you can chuck all your previous notions of the game out the window, because Shadowrun looks and plays better than ever before, and is worth getting excited about.

I wasn't much interested in this game, but maybe the demo will impress?

Shadowrun demo to hit Xbox Live Marketplace...on June 6th. It will feature Power Station, and the gametype Raid, with Humans and Elves. It also won't have a time restriction for play...and it doesn't have an announced expiration at the moment. Full breakdown of what's in the demo...

                            Training: Chapters 1, 2, and 3
Solo Match and Public Match (so both bot play and multiplayer)
One map: Power Station (which means only one game type: Raid)
                            Two races: Elf and Human
Magic: Tree of Life, Resurrect, Gust, and Teleport
Tech: Glider, Enhanced Vision, and Smartlink
Weapons: Pistol, SMG, Rifle, Shotgun, Katana, and Sniper Rifle

problem is the game is going to be 60 dollars. Yes you read right 60 bones for a multiplayer only game. Rumors have been going around that FASA will be shut down after this game ships.
