If you say so, that means 4 out of every 5 people on any street will have HDTV's... NO CHANCE

So what's going to come out and dethrown 1080p? Something would have to be out NOW for any TV in the remotely near future. It's about the future... yes... look 5 years into the future... 1080p will be the standard and most/all TVs by THEN will have it.

If there is another higher standard by then, it will be in the great minority as no technology or hardware today is equipped to handle whatever the future holds. Therefore, 1080p will still be king then....

      Big whoop.

You have to think FORWARD, not 2006. Demographics will change BIG TIME, and very rapidly, in home entertainment over the next 5 years.

1080p won't be the standard in 5 years. Most tv stations just got their 720p or 1080i cameras, I don't see them upgrading again.

Ah yes, that was my point, we won't be upgrading. I had 1080p and 1080i mixed up... DOH!

            LOL

Sony has no chance at what? And how does that affect your life if the system sells or doesn't sell?

What other people choose to do with their earnings doesn't affect you in any way...so why even break a sweat?

Sony will be fine. If Playstation was their only by product, there would be ample reason for concern.

I will be getting a PS3 and I'm pretty sure I won't be the only one.

Heres a question. What do yall think about the PS3 "core" system ? To me it isnt as stripped as the 360 Core version. I mean your getting the Hard drive still and everything else is there...i wouldnt use the compact card slots anyways. and for HDMI well you can still get HD without HDMI and for the average consumer i dont think it will change his view that much. The "Core" Ps3 will probably sell alot better than the 360 Core

well at least with the 360 core, it's still upgradeable. From what I understand, the PS3 "core" has no HDMI upgradeability.

Re: You'll want to read this Sony interview from CNNMoney

I could care less who "wins" or not. I'm not breaking a sweat either, why would I? My points are that Sony is setup to fail in this market. They've created a system that's too expensive and have priced themselves out of the average person's pocketbook. They are launching at a time when not only is there another system to compete with, there are many very highly touted games that will directly eat into their profits. Consumers will be saying "do i want a game at this price or a new system?" They've created a console that's devilishly hard to create games on, and are already going to be a year behind in base units sold. Technologically, the PS3 is an equal to the 360, so it can't do what the xbox did and simply rely on greater technology to close the gap.

If you wait a year to compete, you damn well better have 1. a better system to perform on, 2. an easier system for architects to build on, and 3. a competitive price that won't eat into your already shrinking market, and 4. SOME type of competitive online marketplace that rivals xbox live.

I'm sure plenty of people will buy the PS3... maybe myself included, but that doesn't mean Sony is making wise business moves. Why do you think they keep delaying it? They can't find a way to make the numbers work, and the system itself has been such a nightmare to build that it's taken them forever to just get the platform stable enough to move forward with a possible release date.

And yes, Sony DOES have to worry about the competition and their place within the next gen consoles. Go try to open a nationwide pizza chain, with more expensive pizza and more overhead and try tocompete at that type of level. You'd have a lot of catching up to do and an uphill battle.

By 2009, it will be 5 out of 5... that's when the law takes effect.... And if you don't have a HDTV by that time, the government has to send you a receiver that picks up the HD waves for your non HD tv thus converting it to HD. Lucky for the consumers the conversion is free in 2009, but by that time I assume most would already have a HD set.

...Besides, HDTVs are getting relatively cheap depending upon how large of a screen you want and who's manufacturing it. People like SONY and other "big" name brands STILL want some loot for the technology. But, the TVs are becoming very affordable.

You need to read what law you are talking about. It only covers broadcasting of digital tTV over analog TV and has nothing to do with HDTV.

No HDMI is a big deal........it renders blue ray technology useless with no HDMI. No Wi-Fi, No SD or Compact reading ability, and no wireless controllers. If you plan on getting a ps3, its better to spend the extra $100. Much better.

. The only thing the component/hdmi adapter will do is allow you to plug the ps3 into your HDMI jack on your tv (if the tv has one). It's just an adapter. You won't get the ful function of a regular HDMI cable.

I thought I read the controllers were wired on the 20gb version. Maybe I am wrong. But yeah, I know wi-fi is for networking.

the 20gb will be okay for someone who just wants to play games and that is it. But if you plan on using it as a PVR and for watching BLue-Ray dvds in the future it is better to spend the extra $$$

It will sell well though, even at that price. mainly because it will be the cheapest Blue-Ray DVD player you can buy. Almsot $400 cheaper than the stand alone players.

The Bluetooth is supposidly taken out of the $500 verison as well.
it's just wired controllers to the USB ports.
