Resident Evil 4??

I gameflyed Resident Evil 4 for the PS2 with pretty high expectations given all the amazing reviews.....after about an hour with the game I'm pretty disappointed. The atmosphere and graphics and such are very nice so far, but other than that I'm not having much fun. I'm hoping I'm doing something wrong (don't have the manual of course) or that I'm approaching the game incorrectly or something?

First of all, it's beyond me why you can't strafe in this game. Other than that, I'm just at a loss as to what I'm supposed to be doing. I'm in the village (first level) and once I get spotted by the villagers they all rush me. I manage to take a bunch out, but after I run out of bullets they just keep coming and coming and coming.....

Is this game just supposed to be ridiculously hard, or am I doing something wrong? If anyone here liked this game, please clue me in.

I have to say its one of the best games I've ever played, it so much fun to me. As for that part you are stuck on, I was also stuck there for a while. My advice would be to "survive" as long as possible, but I will say no more so as not to spoil anything. Trust me, you will enjoy the game as you progress. :wink:

I didn't play it on PS2 but I did play it on GC. It was one of the best games I have played also.

They should have named it something else because its not Resident Evil. Resident Evil HAS ****ING ZOMBIES!

I didn't get into the beginning very much, but it gets better once you get out of the village.

Obviously there must be some answer other than running around and picking off the villagers one by one, which is next to impossible? I'll give it a go this weekend.

Wow.Best game I played in a long long time.That and GOD of WAR made me very happy that I kept my ps2.

when the villagers spot u, i believe u run into a house, u can find bullets there, then u run up the stairs and there's more... at least thas what i remember but i haven't play'd since 04 when i bought it for GC.

You have to make use of the environment. Get into a house and barracade the door by moving furniture. But beware, one house triggers the appearance of a lethal and hard to kill foe. I personally found the beginning of the game to be a blast, the rest of the game is just as good (though there aren't many segments quite as hard as that beginning part). I found the atmosphere of this game wasn't so much designed to scare you, but it makes you feel like death is nipping at your heals at every step of the way, a survival kind of feeling. It can be pretty intense.
