It means after 2010 developers will be free to make full-use of the security features offerred by HDMI. So some movies released after 2010 won't be playable on your $499 PS3 because of security features. If Blu-Ray is a success, I imagine by 2010 cheaper and more affordable Blu-Ray players will be available so its kind of a non-issue.

Someone is BS'ing, methinks. Everything I have ever read says that analog connections like component video will transmit no higher than a 1080i image-that HDMI is required to do 1080p.

If what they said (about 1080p being possible over component video) is true, then I don't see why one sku would have an HDMI out and one wouldn't. It makes no sense at all, since you wouldn't be gaining anything. The difference between component and HDMI in terms of video quality (on a 720p or 1080i image) is so insignificant that it isn't even worth mentioning-basically, it's nonexistant. If they both allow for the same thing, why wouldn't Sony just have A/V Multi-outs on both sku's alone and cut every possible cost they could?

      Food for thought...

Same thing I was thinking when I heard this.

not to mention that no TV that supports 1080P (highest of the high end) is NOT going to have an HDMI port.

If you can afford a 1080P TV, I'm thinking you can spring for the extra $100 for the HDMI output on the PS3.

and any HDTVs with component only will not be 1080P TVs anyway.
