throw exclusive lincense deals in this conversation and it brings it to a whole new real. just look at madden 07 when it comes out, and watch the reactions to the game. i know i am definatly one of the "on the way out" gamers in his article. right now im in a denial stage but with every anticipated game and with every let down, i get more outraged and soon ill have a payday on ebay. i hope im over reacting but its only a matter of time......

Yeah I might give the Wii a chance, but i think this is my last gen of launch-buying, must-have gaming. Other than sports and a shooter here or there, I'm not into gaming like I was when the Dreamcast came out. Games aren't as exciting as before. EA make half-azz games, 2K makes buggy games, and GTA is getting old. I know everybody doesn't feel like me, that's why this is my opinion. But I think I'll always love gaming, but the all night'rs are just about gone.

Hey anybody remembers when NFL2k1 came out online on Seganet? Those were the days!
Boy this habit is as bad as dope!!!

I think he has his share of good and poor points. I don't think it will crash. Handhelds are thriving and we are in a transition period. Sure the systems and games won't do as well as the current gen, but there still is money to be made. The gen after next, I don't know about though. I know i won't be keeping up with it by then.

Re: Life After the Video Game Crash

At this point in my life (turning 29 in a couple months, married, looking at starting a family), I cannot pay $500-$600 for the "latest and greatest thing". I just bought an XBox to replace my ps2 last fall, loaded up on my sports games, and said "that's it". I used to play 2-3 games a day when I was single, but now I'm lucky to get an hour a week in. I've got all my sports genres covered that I like (Links, Forza, NFL 2k5, NCAA 06, NBA 2k6, NCAA CH2k6, MLB 2k6), but I keep feeling like I'm going to transition into handhelds. The DS is REALLY calling to me for some reason....

Anyways, the author makes a good point in that I could give two craps about how shiny something is now or how real the flame looks. Give me GAMEPLAY!!! If the game looks better than current-gen but has less features or compromised gameplay, it's not worth the money. The only "next-gen" console I can see myself purchasing at some point is the Wii.

I never thought I'd reach this point, but I think I'm finally there: the point at which gaming isn't a need, but rather an escape. While I still like rosters to be current and it to be as "real" as possible, mentally, I've gone back 15 years back to when games were FUN. That's what the handhelds look to deliver to me and my wife now.

I rarely get any time to play as well since i've started working two jobs. I'm in my mid twenties and i'm out and about doing new things, going out, watching sports. I'm single and I still don't have that much time.

I play my psp to death and i guess i'm in that handheld transistion. Even though i can afford to get the ps3, i just think its way too much for something i think is not going to be that much better than a 360.
