Playstation 3 pre-orders!!!

For anyone interested in pre-ordering a PS3 from EB/Gamestop, you won't be able to do so until:

LATE SEPTEMBER, EARLY OCTOBER

The reasoning is that Gamestop/EB still are not sure how many consoles they will receive on launch and Sony hasn't yet put a "concrete" figure on how many they are going to have available at launch. So to avoid what happened with the 360 launch, Gamestop/EB decided to wait until a later date to take pre-orders in hopes that Sony would give them a more definite figure as to how many consoles EB/Gamestop will receive at launch.

The deposit amount is also being discussed and has ranged from(for the $600 system) $60(10%) all the way to $300(50%). This is supposed to be revealed a few weeks before pre-ordering takes place so that people can save up their hard earned money.

You can go to gamestop.com to sign up on a notification list so that you will receive an email or some sort contact to let you know the exact date that pre-orders will take place.

Just an FYI, the online pre-order date may only give you the date you can order it through gamestop.com, or it may give store date as well, but they haven't in the past launches, just an FYI.

With gamestop.com, you'll pay for 100% of the item, but only be billed when it ships.

Honestly, online might be your best option... just my opinion though.

Well with all the problems I've read with the XBOX 360 consoles, I think I'm gonna wait 6 months to a year after it's released to get mine.

I think what CB is saying is true. I was on a few other boards and a Gamestop District Manager confirmed the same new from a conference call yesterday. They want to wait to get a concrete number on allocations before they could start pre-orders since they can't have another 360 fiasco on their hands. It looks like it's going to be in September/October for pre-orders + all of the Gamestops & EB's by me have notification lists where they will call your for when you can pre-order.

This is good that they are doing it this way.

I wonder if we will get a Wii price and release date at the TGS? Knowing Nintendo, I bet they try to launch before the PS3.

Sounds good to me, and smart too if they avoid the preorders not being filled for months! I also think it's smart that they want around half the console cost as deposit.

more like 4.. ive owned 3 ps2s and each one was progressively better but still ended up breaking.
also, youd be too stupid to buy one online without a warranty. they have a track record for crappy dvd laser eyes, and with an expensive blueray included, you best believe you need to buy one from compusa or bestbuy with a 2 year protection plan

I've never had a warranty on any launch console or otherwise and have never had any problems. My launch 360 still works fine, my launch PS2 worked for three years before I wanted a new one (no reason...just new), and I exchanged my Xbox for one with the different disc drive because the Thomson drive sucked. No problems with any Nintendo system, save my SNES, which somehow lost the ability to display green after ten years.

I know I've been lucky, as I've had problems with prior HDTV's, but all in all just know that around 5% of ALL high tech gear will have problems, new models or established.

*And of course you only read about people having problems...which is really a VERY small slice of owners. How many have 360's on here? And how many have had problems other than a few random freezes or DDE's, which are to be expected!?*

When I picked up Tomb Raider I signed a "call me when PS3 is ready to preorder" list @ the EB down the street from me. Hopefully that'll give me a better shot at securing a launch console, there were no more than 15 people ahead of me.
