While I unfortunately haven't had a lot of time to dedicate to this game, here is an excellent site I was referred to:

Any suggestions to really get my hooks into this beast? I bought it based on reviews and my computer can run it great (high all the way) but haven't played a lot. HELP!

well I started playing it yesterday, played the tutorial and now am running a Russian Empire, that is at war with the neighboring China. Play the tutorial, if you see you're interested more power to you...though I'm having some tech difficulties myself right now. thanks for the website

Got bored with this game in a week. Too much been there, done that with I, II, III,...to me it's a tired franchise. At one time this was my favorite game, but it's lost something to me.

See, for me it's my first Civ game. I was reading though that there were only minor improvements on IV from III (the religious aspects). Unlike C&C, which I've had since day one and still pop the old and new iterations in from time to time.

Another good game is 'Rise of Nations'. It has some historical pinnings like Civ, along with some damn good RTS gameplay like C&C. I just picked up 'Rise of Legends' but have done nothing with it.

Curse of parenthood, I guess. I still buy the games I know I'll like and that I want to play...they just sit on the shelf for a long time, and some have still not been played after a year or more.

Has anyone checked out Age of Empires 3? This is my all time rts series, I haven't had to the opportunity to upgrade my PC because I chose the HDTV/Xbox360 route.

If it's your first Civ game, then yeah this will kick butt. But really I'm burned out on the series. I used to buy anything that Sid put together out there.

                    Re: Civilization IV

I've been a huge fan of the Civilization series. The first one I played was Civ3. I have Civ4 but it has has some techical issues for some gamers like CTD and other weird problems. The latest patch v1.61 hopefully fix the game.

The one i'm waiting for is Sid Meier's Railroad which is the follow up to Railroad Tycoon3. And is made by the same people who did RT2 and RT3.
