Oh really? Well I never recall anybody walking up to my door and asking for me to complete a survey of some sort for videogames.

Population means population. Sample is different. The stats may be true for a small sample size, but I highly doubt some of these are THAT accurate.


Some interesting stuff, though.

If the sample size is large enough though they can give a true representation of the entire population to within a margin of error, no different than any other survey is done. Just because you or I weren't included in this survey doesn't mean it's not representative (to within the margin of error of course).

As for the accuracy of the statements, I believe most of them have valid reasons as to why they are correct. For example the 40% of players being women may seem high but then read this thread and there's very good explanations as to why that probably is in fact true.

The 40% of female online gamers is comprised highly of women who play "casual games" like the YAHOO games. Those are mostly women and number in the millions.

Yea, you cant forget the womens who play those handheld games like Poker, Solitaire, Uno, Wheel of Fortune, etc. If those even count as video games.

Can any of you imagine what the world would be like before video games??? Clay, I'm sure your old *** can chime in on that one.

Was it just Electric football and Plastic Army Men? Big Wheels and Bubble Wrap?

exactly...ODogg's on the money with his comments on polling. That's why you see the "margin of error" which is based off the sample size and other info. In general, if done by a reputable polling company, a poll will be pretty on.

No we actually ran around outside and played sports etc. Amazing how much easier it was in those days to stay in shape and STILL eat pretty much what you want. I don't remember much diet food back in the day.

i dont see this as being true.

of course, most 15 year olds wait until their birthdays and have their parents buy it for them with the money they receive from relatives, which goes into the moms bank account, to pay for the item. most kids either dont have the money or they arent given the freedom to buy a game on their own. this point there trying to make here means nothing to me.

i dont see this as being true.

that's one they'd have to elaborate on. it probably in the survey was a question like "would you consider yourself to play video games at least once a month" or something like that...i'd like to see the actual survey questions now that i think about it..as the wording affects this stuff quite a bit..

Not to mention that horrid PC game the Sims that nearly everyone woman I know that owns a computer has a copy of the original game not to mention a handful of the rip off expansion kits.
