I bought the Dreamcast, PS2, Xbox, and Xbox 360 all at launch. But I just picked up a Nintendo DS. I would like to stay buying an established system gives you an awesome choice of games at much better prices. If only I weren't such a tech geek...

Buying consoles at launch is cool since your one of the first few on the block to have the system, but than you pay for it the first year with lack of good games + system malfunctions that occur.Comment

I never buy at launch, it's a joke. You pay premium for games that will be literally pennied in a couple years. You have to be worried about it breaking, and most importantly the lineup won't have anything on the systems you own.Comment

The only console I've ever bought at launch was the PS2, and that was mostly because my PSOne finally croaked about a month before launch and I didn't feel like buying another PSOne when the PS2 wasn't backwards compatible. I did also get a Gameboy Advance at launch. Both of those systems I got screwed on because the PS2 broke a year after launch (granted it was a random error where the memory card reader wouldn't read PS2 memory cards as opposed to the DRE, the launch titles also sucked) and the GBA received a hardware update in the GBA SP later on which I ended up getting.
I'm in my 20's now and bragging about having a system to people doesn't do it for me (plus none of my friends would really care that much anyways) so I have no real incentive to get a launch system if the games aren't great. The 360 games weren't and the PS3 games likely won't be as well. Plus if I am to even consider purchasing a PS3 I'm going to at least wait to make sure there aren't any severe hardware problems.Comment

The only console I got at launch was the PS2. The games IMO were great at the time (Madden 2001, TimeSplitters, SSX, Tekken Tag Tournament), but I had to send it in to Sony no less than three times due to CD drive malfunctions.
Needless to say, I no longer buy consoles at launch, especially with all the noise made about the problems with the 360 at launch.Comment
