Sony New Technology concept in dev.
How far do you think we are from this type of interface? I'm hoping from a consumer stand point with price being heavily considered 5 years?

The DataTiles system integrates the benefits of two major interaction paradigms: graphical and physical user interfaces. Tagged transparent tiles are used as modular construction units. These tiles are augmented by dynamic graphical information when they are placed on a sensor-enhanced flat panel display. They can be used independently or can be combined into more complex configurations, similar to the way language can express complex concepts through a sequence of simple words.Comment

It looks sort of interesting, but it's too cumbersome IMO. Basically, all the tiles look like they have a unique purpose - baseball player profile, weather. You put it down on a console and it gets recognized as to what task should be executed. After he puts some tiles down, the guy uses a stylus to drag and drop through baseball profiles. This could serve some purpose, but right now, I don't know which one."We were expecting a miracle with Elite, but instead we got Jesus at halfcourt."

Right now, honestly, it's almost TOO DEEP for what the average consumer is looking for. I'd definitely have to say that is one of the illest joints I've ever seen. Thinking about it, that could be a way to play games. How big is that thing in the background that you place the tiles on? How many tiles do you get? How is it set up when you purchase it? I'm definitely interested. I'm sure I won't get it within the next 10 years though no matter how great of a leap technology takes and how far I am behind. Sony definitely gained a new respect from me. I hope they do well and increase their profit to continue making gadgets and advances like that. Can only be great for the world. By the way, first thing I thought about was the DS for some strange reason.......Comment

It looks like general information. Could be a new way to surf. Think of it as that Minority Report holographic machine except it's more along the lines of glass-like, I guess. I see potential for it if it's used very well. There are so many questions about it though.......Comment

Re: Sony New Technology concept in dev.

what was tight was he put the nelly music video tile down then the shopping cart tile and drug it to the cart then put it on his phone.. that was sick.

It can show the weather. It can probably show movies. I wonder what it's running on. It might be that cell processor or something. What is it called and when is it going to drop? Don't they have some type of TGS this year?Comment

Here's something else. I'm not sure if this is related but I think this is another patent that they just pushed for. Sounds weird how it's described but it's a bit interesting.

I read about that patent. I think they'll have something like that for PSP2 but I doubt it'll make it on PS3.
