Re: XBOX 360 gamepad for WINXP
Not sure what a "360 gamepad for Windows XP" is. The one that I have is the wired XBox 360 controller...it just happens to work on PC. I'm not sure if somebody made an imitator or something?
It works with anything as long as you find and download XBCD, to assign any button/axis function to any item on the controller. I made Madden perform just like the Xbox version (with a small difference on the vision cone/stiff arm/etc due to the PC having a universal button map), and can use the triggers as axes in any racing game.
If it is the XBox 360 wired controller packaging, then it's the same thing. If not, no idea.Comment

Re: XBOX 360 gamepad for WINXP
The ONLY negative I have found using my wired 360 controller on the PC is that the drivers for the controller, they have the Triggers on the same axis. So if you are playing a racing game, you can't use the brake and the gas at the same time.
Think of a slider....
Brake---------------------center point------------------------Gas
As soon as you hit the R trigger for gas.... The center point moves towards the gas side of the slider.... As soon as you press the brake WHILE holding the gas it goes back to the center point, so you truly never brake, it just slows the car down. So feathering the brake is impossible.
I hope that MS updates the drivers.
I'm still waiting.
It does suck that this is the case.
On the other hand, I had no problems playing Madden and NHL with it.BeyondMediaOnline.comComment

In your question, you "assume" it's the same as an XBox 360 controller, which might lead one to believe that it wasn't the genuine MS one. Some weird offshoot company could make and market a PC controller, naming it "360" for brand recognition.
There's obviously going to be a bit of confusion since it IS a 360 controller, only wired. You either plug it into the USB port on the 360, or on the PC.
But thanks for the sarcasm.Comment

Re: XBOX 360 gamepad for WINXP
Well..yeah. Anybody making a sarcastic quip like they're insulting my intelligence will definitely get my feathers ruffled, but it's not the first (or the last) time that will happen.. No big deal, man.
But make sure you check out those links that another poster provided; with that and the 360 pad, you can play any game, with totally configurable controls. The only thing I wish it had was the ability to map a keyboard key to a button (so I could use ESC as the pause button, etc).Comment
