    PSP coming of age?

I bought a PSP ages ago...sold it quickly for what I paid almost as I was kind of dissapointed...

Bought one again months later second hand for a decent price...

    And have hardly used it.

My wife, on the other hand, LOVES it. She's stored music + photos + played Lumines like you wouldn't believe...

The other day we were at the shops and she saw a game called 'Daxter' being played and it looked cool...so we went and bought it.

She absolutely loves it. Big time addicted already...

Anyways, I am sitting there watching her play and thinking "damm, that game seriously looks and sounds good..."

I mean, it looks like same quality as a PS2...which was how the machine was hyped originally. "A PS2 in your hands" etc...when, in reality, it was more like a PS 1.5.

Now a friend leant me Syphon Filter and, again, it's pretty amazing how good it looks. Great game and it's on the PSP.

I just looked at the videos of NCAA 07 and I am stunned how good it looks.

Could it be the machine is 'growing up'...i.e. reaching it's potential?

I don't play on trains and planes much etc as I like to read. However, I do like relaxing on the balcony or by the pool and playing. A portable has some nice benefits as I don't like being indoors, particularly on hot days etc, and a balcony with a nice cool breeze and a drink is kind of my ideal place to play...

I can't get into a game that is essentially a severely watered down PS2 game though (i can accept a lesser game than the 360 version for obvious reasons)...

If some of these games can stary to legitmately be equal or better than the PS2 equivalents...then this machine may well have more staying power than I thought...

    Re: PSP coming of age?

I bought a PSP at launch. About 2 months later, it sat in my closet and collected dust for about 8 months. Then I bought MLB The Show for it this year and could not put it down. I also have Syphon Filter (terrific game), Daxter (best looking game on the system), and FIFA World Cup (pretty good) and I haven't put the PSP down. I'm like you, I like to play outside on my deck, in bed, or on the can. I think the system really has began to realize its potential. The most important thing is that two of the best games for the system - Syphon Filter and Daxter - are original games and not ports. I am eagerly awaiting NCAA 07. I also want to pick up Field Commander as I have heard good things about it.

the PSP had the big drought after launch, but now it's fine. Most of the hate is from people who sold it for credit last year.

sounds like it's getting better over time. I sold mine, because I don't travel enough, and don't have the desire to play a console game on a portable when i'm at home (why not just play a console game?). I've heard they're making more unique titles for the PSP (not just ports/games similar to console releases), so that's good. Just don't think that's the portable for me though. Just got a DS and i'm enjoying the different dynamic of games. If i travelled a lot though, i'd have kept the PSP, because then it'd be way more useful in that respect.

Yeah, looks like some good times ahead for the machine...

The Mrs is right at this moment hooked on Level 3 Dexter...she's been stuck there for ages.

She's determined to finish it...which means the TV, PC etc are all going to be mine for ages

X-Men Legends 2 was the reason I kept playing it until Daxter, and MLB: The Show looks like a great purchase

If I was to sell it back...do I just need the original packaging...or do I need to find all the cords and everything?

EB gave me $150 store credit for mine roughly 3 months-a few weeks before that it was worth $200 store credit. They took mine without the packaging and I forgot the earbuds and cord but, they said that was all right.

                    150?

Damn...I might just sell mine back in a few days, then. That'd pay off NCAA, Madden, and give me 90 dollars extra(have 5 down on each already.)

I don't think so since they are considered accessories. I asked my peeps who work at EB and said all that's required is the PSP machine plus the battery and charger.

Does anyone know the trade in value of a psp at EB? I don't think I'll trade it in, I"m just curious. Everyone talking about the DS is getting me hyped up for one.

I just got my PSP last month, and I couldn't be happier with my purchase. Between PS2 quality games like The Show, Hot Shots Golf, Syphon Filter, and Field Commander, it basically feels like having a console in my pocket. I'm doing a lot of travelling this summer, and in the past the most irritating part about that would be not having access to my consoles....this summer I've barely even noticed, since I can play The Show anywhere I go. Looking forward to the football games. If anyone's been on the fence about getting a PSP, I'd say that now's a great time to pick one up, as it's definitely coming of age.
