I also have a launch system with no problems (knock on wood). Great system.

Second, EB/Gamestop and other stores that offer extended warranties are keeping them in stock on a regular basis. I know that at my EB, they always have them in stock.

Finally, so long as you don't put your system in any enclosed space, then you shouldn't have a problem. All the problems that I have heard of are the fact that the systems are overheating and that is because people are putting them on shelves of entertainment centers. That is a no-no. Make sure that the system is out where it can receive air, and you will have no problems.

And before you question what I am saying, remember this fact. I am a Sony fan. Ask anyone on here.
Well at IGN they have went through 9 systems since launch so to me it is a real problem. If it were me I wouldn't touch it until their issues are ironed out but if anyone plans to get one I would advise an extended warranty to give yourself a saftey net. Sony and Microsoft better realize people are getting tired of having systems breaking down so early on. At the very least they should have a years warranty if their so sure of the quality of their product.

Re: Have People Been Experiencing Problems w/the 360?

I think it's hit or miss. I bought my system at launch (born date: 10/10/05). I thought that I was one of the lucky ones because it worked perfectly for about six months... then the dreaded freezes, and red lights. My saga is on another thread. I don't think we'll ever really know how wide spread the problem is because M$ will never release such information. People have said that the problem has been blown out of proportion by the media and internet, but even a number of members on the OS forums have had to send their 360's in for repair or replacement.... and M$ sure has a plethora of refurbished 360's to send us in exchange for our defective ones.

The system itself is great (when working)... For peace of mind, I'd still suggest getting the extended warranty or purchase from a retail outlet with great return policy.

IGN also admitted they had their 360's shoved into tiny spaces like cabinets with inadequate ventilation on most of those that overheated and had to be replaced. So...moot point.

Anyone who has went through 9 360's needs to either put the system in a better place, or start carrying around a few four-leaf clovers and some rabbits feet because they are cursed.

Or maybe turn it off once in a while.

Blown out of proportion or not, my launch system crashed in January and I had a product replacement with Gamestop. Now my second one is starting to act funny as well (I turned it on and got 3 red lights a few times, but they went away). I treat my consoles like million dollar investments - keep them well ventilated and dust free. I love the 360, but I am always worrying about it crashing. I think the quality will be there in due time (with the new fans), but with my experiences, it isn't yet.

Re: Have People Been Experiencing Problems w/the 360?

Had a red light issue with "pre COD patch", but I just turned the system off and started it with the controller. It lasted for a couple of weeks and prompted me to have it repaired, although the 360 worked fine once I went through the drill. When I recieved the postage ready package to send it to MS for repairs, I decided against it. I sent in for the 2 year warranty, but because of mail delays in the New Orleans area it didn't get to MS for awhile. In any event I haven't had a red light issue since mid December and I'm warrantized until April 2008.

LOL. I always support the Mounties (even went to Ga. for the Sugar Bowl last year), it's just that Mich is my first love. With the way things are looking this year, I might want to rethink my first love.

What is the "pre COD patch?" I've wondered if my 360 crash was a result of downloading a patch or when I downloaded the two free maps for COD2. Whether it's coincidence or not, my 360 crashed soon thereafter.
