I'm terrified of the Sci Fi angle in this game. I want to be in Jerusalem, not Matrix Jerusalem. Anyone know what that's all about?

No one will know until they play the game. Ubisoft has been tight lipped about it.

My guess is that the Altair is the only one not from that time period. How he's in the 12th century I guess we'll find out when we play the game.

The Sci-Fi twist is what REALLY has me intrigued so far... plus Ubisoft Montreal doesn't really fold when it comes to making games w/ great stories (Original Splinter Cell, Prince of Persia, etc)

I just want to know what the whole "kill 10 enemies with a Full DNA Bar" is all about

          He's not a time traveler.

Jade Raymond confirmed that he isn't a time traveler.

Maybe the game never has an ending, leaving it to be picked up in Assassin's Creed II.

it's genetic memory. Kristen Bell said so in an interview at least. The story appears to be people in the future tracing back someone's genetic memory, and the game is the simulation of that or whatever.

That's pretty much the only known info about the sci fi stuff for the story. No one knows the ending or any twists yet, but I wouldn't want to read them anyways. They want this to be a franchise, so there's more to the story over a few games.

Just found it, and it is as horrifying as I feared. I'm not saying htat it's ad, I just don't like the sound of it at all. I really wanted it to be a straight up, medieval game, but it turns out that it's a Matrix themed sci fi simulator.

Actress Kristen Bell has let slip a huge plot revelation in Ubisoft's much anticipated medieval swashbuckler Assassin's Creed (spoilers ahead) - that the game's Crusade-fighting antics are in fact part of a Matrix-style virtual reality project.

In an interview with IGN, Bell - who has provided her voice and face for Assassins Creed - said that the game is "based on the research that's sort of happening now, about the fact that your genes might be able to hold memory."

She continues: "it's about this science company trying to, Matrix-style, go into peoples brains and find out an ancestor who used to be an assassin, and sort of locate who that person is."

So it seems that Ubi's medieval assassin-em-up is infact futuristic sci-fi set in the modern day as the leaked screenshots from earlier in the year suggested.

Suspicions over the game's modern-day link were also fueled by an X06 ****-up in September, when the game's lovely producer very briefly displayed a futuristic-looking menu screen on stage.

Compelling twist or complete cop-out? Let us know what you think in the comments section below.

I agree it sounds dumb in this context of comparing it to the matrix, but they may have a big series planned out. They aren't saying why the people in the future are seeking genetic memory of this assassin, what they're looking for, etc. It could still end okay, but some people wanted it to just be a straight forward game.

I think that's even more intriguing. I doubt it's just about that. There's gonna be more to the story and whatever she leaked is stuff you'll find out early in the game.

Yeah, I was one of those people. Again, I'm not saying it's going to be bad or anything. Could be great, but they made the classic mistake. You don't hoodwink your customers. You don't advertise chicken and give them fish. Even if they are known to like fish. I found the idea of a medieval killer very appealing, because the last attempt at this was Thief. The idea of digital readouts happening over my ancient violence just turns my stomach. In execution it could be great. I'm not psyched up about this game anymore though. It dropped down my list below Mass Effect, Rock Band, Choops and maybe even CoD4.
