I just hope it's not like Indigo Prophecy where they had this crazy plot twist that got really weird, supernatural, etc and left a bad taste in everyone's mouth.

I don't mind the sci-fi stuff, I just really hope they don't screw it all up. Story in a game like this is paramount IMO.

Except the character that you're playing as isn't traveling through time so it really doesn't matter what the story is around it since you'll be playing in the time period that they've shown.

If the sci fi element doesn't bother you, then I don't think their execution will bother you either. Ubisoft has been better and better with their stories, and they seem to have a good handle on things. This is just a different game than what I hoped it would be. Now I'll reserve judgements until all reviews and impressions are in. It's a matter of preference. A medieval game about assassination in 1191 Jerusalem only has to be a 7 or 8 for me to really love it. A Matrix simulation game with some commentary on the retentive nature of our genes needs to be a 10.

That's your personal opinion. Like I said before, whether or not the sci fi backdrop has an effect on your opinion of the game is a personal one for each individual. I was never under the impression that he was a time traveler, so that was never a factor.

Indigo Prophecy got stupid at the end. I got so far in that game and then sold it when the story went crazy. I couldn't bear to play it any further though I knew I was close to finishing it.

I'm not worried, just pointing out how a major plot twist in a cool game can really turn people off, depending on how it's executed. I have no reason to doubt Ubisoft though, they have a good track record.

Yeah, I found it when I moved (somehow it got mixed in with my DVD's) and when I got to the end it was just jacked up. The game had you sucked in and wondering what's gonna happen then they got all trippy on us. Disappointing to say the least.

I think this game will still own even if E.T. himself lands in the middle of the city in a friggin spaceship.

                    Re: Assassin's Creed

It is believed that this (link below) is the first 5 minutes of game play. As I mentioned earlier I hope this is a backdrop to the story, which it appears to be. I'm not a big fan of sci-fi in games, but it appears the game only takes place during the Crusades, but the sci-fi element just sets up why you are there. Now, don't ask me why they felt the need to do this, because the theme of a medieval killer seemed fine. However, instead of being locked into Jerusalem during the times of the Crusades, the development team can now jump into other periods in history for sequels to Assassin's Creed. Well, at least this is my theory.

I didn't click the link (rather not know anything spoilerish), but yeah, I don't think it'll be a big deal. My point was that some really cool games have been seriously almost ruined by plot twists/things like this, so it's a valid concern. Ubi hasn't done anything to warrant real worry though.

That is exactly how I feel. This is something that could potentially be bad, and is certainly not welcome(for me) compared to just having a game about a medieval assassin in theory. Ubisoft is trustworthy though, I'm a huge fan of their games, and I hope that this is something for the better. Be that as it may, now it's "wait and see".

The part that really bothers me is seeing the digital readouts actually on screen in Jerusalem. That's the kind of thing that ruins immersion for me. So even if I want to forget that it's a Matrix style fabrication, they remind me by putting sci fi readouts over enemies. I wasn't as worried about it until I saw that, and then read Kristin Bell's quote.

I thought it was damn cool. What i like is that they are going to make 2 more games i think. So how they are approaching this leaves endless possibilities for sequels.
