    Acclaim's Games Live On

Re-Volt fans, you can now stop your candlelight vigils. A company has finally come forward and snatched up the remainder of the Acclaim licenses left over from the company's bankruptcy. That company is Toronto-based Throwback Entertainment. In addition to Re-Volt, Throwback also nabbed such notable franchises as Vexx, Extreme-G Racing, and Legends of Wrestling.

"Acquiring the Acclaim titles provides a significant addition to our company, and will allow us to target different markets and opportunities," said Thomas Maduri, CEO of Throwback.

Acclaim Entertainment was founded in 1987. During its 17 years in the market, it was responsible for developing, publishing, and distributing a vast array of successful franchises. Acclaim faced financial difficulties in the 00s and eventually filed for chapter 7 bankruptcy in mid-2004. Late in 2005, a number of the more popular franchises Acclaim owned at the time -- including Myst, Crazy Taxi, Burnout 2, and Ferrari F355 Challenge -- were auctioned off to the highest bidders.

"Acclaim Entertainment was responsible for the creation of some wonderful original games, and unfortunately couldn't see them through their lifecycle. We are very pleased to have been afforded the opportunity to take these titles through the next generation, and onwards. Many of the titles have all the elements required to establish franchises, with new services broadening the reach of games, Throwback will be well positioned for the expansion of the franchises."

Anyone distraught over the fate of the rest of their favorite Acclaim franchises need not fret too much. Many of Acclaim's licenses have been distributed across the gaming nexus and will undoubtedly live on into the next generation. A next-generation installment of what is arguably Acclaim's hottest franchise, Turok, is in development by Propaganda Games.

I hope that we see another Legends of Wrestling game in the future.

When did Acclaim own Crazy Taxi? That's a Sega property unless I'm missing something. I know they published it on the PS2, but it was a sega title on every other system and in the arcades.

Burnout was picked up by EA after Burnout 2, before the Acclaim death.

Ferrari F355 was Sega as well.

Re-Volt owned! When I beta tested Xbox Live, we played that on Live for hours every night. Still the best racing game on Xbox Live ever.

And please, let's never see Legends of Wrestling again.... EVER.

what about All-Star baseball? Maybe they can convince Microsoft or Nintendo to pick it up.

MS already has the High Heat code, so don't expect All Star Baseball to go anywhere. Nintendo had a new baseball engine and God only knows what happened to that game.

I wish they would use it. I was starting to like mvp and i am not a big fan of 2k baseball so I am pretty much out of options.

2005 was amazing with the Rule V, Arbitration and Prospect book. Not to mention the gameplay that was top notch.

Um....they did have LoW 2 I believe. Sucked like hell too, yet I saw sparks of potential in that game. I honestly don't know what they can do with that game but think of the countless number of wrestlers that we use to watch when wrestling was the stuff. Think of the old Hulk vs. the Giant, or the Hulk vs. the Warrior, or Hacksaw Jim Duggen(sp?) or Superfly, or Mr. Perfect, or Mr. Genius, or the old Undertaker, or Razor Ramon (if they can land that license), or Diesel (if they.....), or any of those old matches. That would be the stuff. Of course, I'd love for a wonderful storyline or mode where I can be immersed in it like I get with basketball. Just think of the graphical potential. Let's hope these franchises are revived with sensible concepts and not foolish thoughts.......

Revolt was absolutely sweet during the xbox live beta testing! So much fun.
