My new Xbox 360 just froze!!!

I purchased a 360 on July 3rd. I waited because I usually don't like buying new electronics when they are first released because of bugs and such.

Today my 360 froze while I was playing Call of Duty 2. This got me worried because I have read a lot of horrible things about problems with 360's overheating, freezing, and dieing on people.

I also get this white screen sometimes that tells me to insert the disc into the xbox 360 to play. The only problem is that the disc is already in the system. It says this in like 10 different languages as well.

I was just wondering if anyone else has had any problems. What are some possible solutions?

Maybe I am overreacting after one freeze up but after reading about the many problems on the internet it definately got me a bit concerned.

I had one freeze on the first day I got my 360. Since than, maybe two and its been eight months +.

Never got the white screen with disc error message. If you can, exchange it for a new at the store just to be safe.

It's good that your not over reacting. First you need to determine if this game is causing the problem. While COD is pretty much trouble free there several 360 games that are cronic for freezing.

Several Questions to help narrow down the problem:
      1) Is this the only game you currently have?
1a) If this is the only game you currently have can you exchange it?
1b) Any scratches on the disc?
      2) Are other 360 games freezing as well?
      3) Does the problem happen after playing for extended periods?
      4) When do you get this message about inserting a game disc? When you fisrst turn on the 360?
      5) Was COD patched via Xbox Live? If so did you notice the problem before or after the patch?

That happened with FIFA with me. Cleaned the disk a bit, popped it back in and it was good to go again.

I've only had one freeze and it was during the loading screen of an online game of Madden. I probably was because the guy disconnected or something.

Any of the 2K6 games are notorious for freezing, lockups, etc. on the 360.

Dude, the exact thing happened to me, COD2 froze up a couple of times, gave it a break I thought it was my connection as I was playing online, tried offline it froze. After turning on and off I got the 3 red lights of death. Go get an extended warr ASAP! Your bird has a clipped wing and is going down.

my 360 froze two weeks after i got it with call of duty 2. i felt my system and disk after i took it out of the tray and found them to be hotter than usual. id get constant lock ups with call of duty and occasional ones with my demo disks, and never with GRAW. then i looked at my system and found out that my intercooler wasnt on!! so make sure to all you peeps out there with an intercooler, turn it on because if you dont, it will trap the heat inside and burnout some stuff. i returned my 360 within the 30 day exhange policy and the guy was kind enough to give me a new one. he then said to call 18004myxbox if anything happens again or something. never had any problems with the 360 ever since i exchanged it.

I had both NBA 2K6 and MLB 2K6 freeze up on me initially. At first I thought it was 2K's fault, but then I noticed that when MLB froze up, I looked at the disk and saw small scratches on the disk at precise locations, like hands on the face of a clock at 12, 3, 6 and 9 o'clock. I also noticed some scratches on NBA 2K6, but they didn't stand out to me like the MLB scratches did.

I did some searching online, and I found a forum where somewhere said that, at times, it's possible that if you just turn off or turn on the Xbox 360 with a disk already in the drive, a small percentage of people found that their games tend to freeze and/or get scratched, making them unplayable. What's weird is that both my NBA and MLB games froze at the exact same spot, and it was always when I tried to start a game and the "loading...." screens would come up, both games would just hang. With both games, it just seemed like too much of a coincidence that they would hang at the same spot, but the scratches were on both disks.

So, I got new copies of both NBA 2K6 and MLB 2K6 (luckily I exchanged them to the store I bought them without any issues), and now, I ALWAYS exit the games by getting to the dash board, and with the machine still on, I remove the game. Then I power it down. I've been doing that for 2+ months now, and I have had 100% success. Not a single noticeable scratch on the disks, and not a single lock-up or freeze. Also, I always "clear the cache" when I boot up the machine by powering it on with the controller and holding the A button. That seemed to make a difference with MLB and the game appears to run a little better. Just my 2 cents, but all I know is that while the MLB forums were flooded with lockup complaints, I never had a problem after changing the way I turned the game on and turned it off!

i can count the number of times my 360 froze on 1 hand (minus the GRAW multiplayer issues)

I always thought holding the A button and clearing the cache was only something that worked on Oblivion.

I think it was all speculation/rumor that it would work on other games as well. Those games would have to be coded in a way that tells them to clear their files in the cache by holding A at login.

There is another way to clear the cache in the 360 Dashboard, but it will remove all updates to games. I can't recall the command, but I know it was mentioned on here somewhere.

A "secret" code has been discovered in the recent Xbox 360 Spring Update that will clear your cache, and also apparently remove any game updates you have instead.

In order to perform the procedure, do the following:

Access "memory" from the system blades.
                          Highlight the hard drive.
                          Press: Y, X, X, LB, RB, X, X
The following message should appear: "Do you want to perform maintenance on your Xbox 360 storage devices?"

As noted, this will clear the console cache, likely remove any game updates you have downloaded and installed, and could do other things. Perform at your own risk!
