Top 5 games with a little twist

I know there have been quite a few threads like these, but anyway...

    The Rules:
    1) List your 5 top games of all time. Only 5 - no ties or anything, no matter how tough that is.
    2) The basis for your choices is simple: overall quality of the game. This can include many different factors and may mean different things to different people, but that's ok. The question is simply, "For you, how does this game stack up against all others in existence in terms of quality?"
    3) You should not rely on how good a game was "for its time." For instance, Super Mario Bros. may have been the highest quality game "for its time," but it should not be on your list unless you truly believe that, even if it just came out this year, it's still one of the top-5 highest quality games of all time as compared to everything that came both before and after. That said, if you just had an amazing time with a game at a certain time in your life, that may be one of the surest signs that it was "high quality" for you, which is ok.

I realize that people may argue that these rules will not result in the "perfect" ranking of games. That's ok; it's not the point. I'm just curious to see people's responses, choices, and preferences.

    Here's my list:
    1) ESPN NFL 2k5
    2) Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory
    3) Goldeneye 007
    4) High-Heat Baseball 2k3
    5) Burnout 3: Takedown

            1. Morrowind-this game changed my life. I picked it up on a whim and I did'nt even like it at first. To overwhelming but since I'm so use to indepth sports games, I gave it another shot and ended up falling in love with it. So much depth, so many choices, so open ended, so immersive. Ever since then I've been on a mission to find games like it. Many have tried and many have failed to replace this game.

            2. Baseball Pro 98--Only sports game where I was able to play over 1 season and actually play each game. I cant even explain why I like it so much. It had minimal animations, no real teams but the gameplay ruled. Only baseball game I played to this day where walks were perfect. Hit location was great and varied as well as each game. I think I loved this game so much because it reminded me so much of Tony Larussa Baseball on the Genesis. That game got me into baseball.

            3. Oblivion--Great sequel to Morrowind. Graphics are unmatched to this day and just as much depth as its predecessor. It still does'nt live up to Morrowind because of the lack of character. All towns felt the same, the level scaling was bogus and their aren't hardly as many factions and guilds as it was in Morrowind. Still I excellent game however.

            4. NFL 2K5--I dont care what anyone says, this game had it all. The look, the feel and the presentation of a real NFL telecast. After some edits, tweaks and house rules, this game was the bomb. Key element to me was the control. Tough to learn and tough to master. You cant say that about many sports games. The amount of detail 2K put into that game was stagering. It had it share of problems which many should know already but in the end, it played a straight up realistic game of football. From the halftime show to the ESPN style replays to the weekly prep to the weekly sportcenter to the Crib, I loved it all.

            5.??? I'll think of 5 tommorow

              1. Xenogears - great story, great gameplay, and the spirtes help make it look passable to this day (which is something that can't be said for a lot of PSOne games). Too bad Xenosaga can't even come close to matching this game's brilliance.

              2. Resident Evil 4 - I can't believe how fun this game is sometimes.

              3. Metal Gear Solid 3 - Awesome story and an awesome main character that is just fun to play as (who wouldn't want to be Snake?).

              4. Twisted Metal Black - I love this game and always will. I fear a sequel being made because that means I'll actually have to buy a PS3.

              5. Super Mario World - Best 2D platformer ever (and this is coming from a big Sonic fan). Truely timeless.

Honorable Mentions: Warcraft 3, MVP Baseball 2005, NFL 2k5, Eternal Darkness, Tekken 3, Sonic 3, Street Fighter 2

                1. Final Fantasy 3/FFVI (SNES) - best RPG ever IMO, and the joy as a preteen of playing this game is unmatched...not to mention having my parents drop $70 on a cartridge, WOW!

                2. Super Mario Bros. 3 (NES) - the hype for this was amazing ('The Wizard' w/ Fred Savage) and my pseudo-friend got the game first. He then became my BEST friend Plus, the Koopa Kids made their first appearance, in those awesome flying ship dungeons!

                3. Metal Gear Solid (PSone) - I avoided this game initially, as it didn't interest me. What a fool I was. I walked in on release, saw the mob of people, caved, and was immersed in one of the most cinematic games in history. Great story, music, voice acting (a rarity then), and the graphics were very hot for the time.

                4. Super Mario World (SNES) - dropped a bit, since it wasn't my FAVORITE Mario, but the game set the standard for 2D games, and still holds up well today (look at the GBA sales).

                5. Command and Conquer: Red Alert (PC) - a bit of a surprise here, to many on this site, but this was the defining RTS in my mind. The story was good, I liked the fully acted cut scenes, the gameplay was great (and set the bar for real time strategy games for the next decade) and unlocking the ant missions was a hilarious diversion. Add in two sides and some good expansions and you had the perfect "sit down for hours" game.

Just Missed the Cut: Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (SNES), Final Fantasy X (PS2), Chrono Trigger (SNES), Tecmo Super Bowl (NES), Eternal Darkness (GC), Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (PS2/XB)

                  1. Sonic
                  2. Halo 2
                  3. Goldeneye
                  4. NCAA 07
                  5. Half Life 2

Sonic is easily the most entertaining single player game of all time to me. The fast pace action is what makes it great.
