Microsoft To Enable User-Created 360 Games

    Big Teamxbox article on this.

You said you have great ideas for a video game? Now, you’ll have to prove it! Microsoft announced today it is giving Xbox 360 owners the chance to create games for its next-generation console without the need of having a big budget or the backing of a publisher.

Whether you are is a small college dorm room or underground in a dark basement, now you can create the next big Xbox 360 hit using a Windows XP-based computer and a copy of XNA Game Studio Express, which will be available for free later this month.

You may have lot of questions on how this whole thing is going to work, and luckily for you, we’ve got some answers.

Great, something new to devour my leisure time. So much time, so little to do...Strike that, reverse it.
Being kind, one to another, never disappoints.

        awesome movie reference there...

also, sounds like this is fairly powerful. Using Maya or 3D Studio Max, or similar, are tough as hell (unless you all ready know what you're doing). I really think this could be really beneficial to aspiring game makers who all ready have the knowledge and tools, just no easy outlet to get their games out there. I don't really think your average gamer will be able to design the graphics or kick out the C# necessary to make a quality game, but I am looking forward to see what gets put out there.

Now everyone who thinks it's so easy to make a football videogame can make one themselves.

This sounds like a great idea. Hopefully the tools are easy enough where anyone can pick it up and atleast get the basics down.

Wow, we may actually now have a lacrosse game, even if I need to make it myself!

Is MS prepared to go through each submitted game, and make sure that there are no copyright infringements, questionable content, etc? Should be pretty neat... but I'm just not sure how well it will work.

Re: Microsoft To Enable User-Created 360 Games

Next spring, Microsoft hopes to have a broader set of tools that will allow for games to be created that can then be sold online through Microsoft's Xbox Live Arcade. Microsoft will still control which games get published, and it'll get a cut of the revenue.

Down the road, probably three to five years from now, Microsoft hopes to have an open approach, where anyone can publish games, and community response helps separate the hits from the flops.

There's a possibility one could be in the works for the future.
