I have a 360 and a Panasonic 32" LCD TV. I have the switch turned to HDTV on the 360 cord, and plugged in the red/blue/green/white/red component inputs. NCAA 07 looks alright (other folks are having jaggy problems as well), but my dvd's aren't crisp. Any suggestions? I get an HD channel that looks very crisp, so I'm wondering if it's my 360 somehow. I've tried 720p and 1080i without any good result.

Ideas?

Easy - dvds look average on 360.

A cheaper progressive scan dvd player looks much better.

For some reason, I think there are variables. I have had very good DVD playback performance from my 360 on my Sharp Aquos LCD. I haven't tried to play DVD's on my Samsung DLP (I have an upscaling DVD player on that TV.) I may try it on the Sammy, just to see if for whatever reason there is any difference in picture.

Really? So I should get a cheap dvd player now? Does anyone else have this problem on the 360?

Yes really. A good example... Matrix Revolutions.

On 360 during the rain scenes you see the colour banding (?) in the dark areas and it's sort of a grey colour instead of black.

On my LG DVD player it looks noticeably better.

Plus I wouldn't use my gaming console as a dvd player anyway, especially given that my 360 out of the box has troubles reading discs. So I don't want to wear it out on movies.

So I'm assuming a ps2 (I haven't gotten rid of mine yet) is going to be lame as well?

When I say the dvd's are not that good, I mean there are a lot of jaggies and just not that crisp look...I'm not being anal here, that's why I thought I had something hooked up wrong.

did y ou download all the updates from microsoft for the 360? I thought one of the updates was to improve dvd playback (i could be wrong, but i remember that)

I have good playback from my 360. On a Toshiba 57" widescreen and a 26" Widescreen LCD

If you just have your 360 hooked up to the internet and made a gamertag, it should automatically download the new updates for you. I heard it did improve the playback quality among other things. Search the site and you'll find the info. Wasn't too long ago we were talking about this stuff.

The Spring update improved the DVD playback quality for VGA users, and it also allows for upscaled DVD movies for VGA users.

im not really asking for any info on it, but thanks. I was merely telling the OP that he might want a head's up if he's like me and dont have the 360 connected very often...
i know i got that spring update, just from memory i wasn't sure if dvd playback was one of the updates or not.

Actually, I'm pretty sure that update only improved the quality of dvd's for a 360 connected through vga.
