    Gamefly?

I know a few of you guys have Gamefly. I've read positive and negative comments about it. I think I might get it to rent 360 games.. What are your overall impressions of it? Is it easy to get newer games or does it take a long time on a waiting list(360)? Any major problems with them not shipping the game or shipping late? What is the average time you usually wait for a new game like Saints Row or Dead Rising when it comes out? I normally only buy sports games, but when non sports games that I like come out I always try to rent them when they first are released.. Also, has anyone seen any deals or coupons for the 2 game membership..

I wish Blockbuster had a monthly 2 game plan. I would just drive there, but it only looks like they have a 1 game plan.

    Thanks,

    Rob

    Re: Gamefly?

I've been a gamefly member for about five months now. To be honest, Gamefly needs to do some work. They need to increase their stock - oftentimes their most popular games are unavailable. They need to improve their internal processing - when I send a game back, it takes them a really long time to mark the game as returned and ship out another (and I don't think it takes the game that long to get to them via mail, I think it just sits there for a few days before they get to it). Of course, as you mentioned, some other people seem to have no problems with the service.

All that said, I'm still a member, because it still beats paying $59.99 for every 360 game I want to play. So it's still saving me money, so I'll put up with it for now. I just wish the service was better. Hopefully some competition will arrive on the marketplace soon, because right now I'm not aware of any.

With their new 'Fast Return' system they are a lot faster at getting games out to you. I usually don't have much of a problem getting new(er) games really. I usually get them in about 3-4 days. I haven't had a problem at all with their service. The closer you are to their hub in California the faster you will get your games. I am not sure if it would be worth it if you live on the east coast though.

I've hade GF for 3 years. They're not perfect, but they save me some $$$. Heck I'm on the 4-game plan for $35.95. I don't have the "Fast return" option yet, so I always allow a week for my returns. Shipping is inconsistant, but I think that's the USPS fault. Sometimes I'll get a game in 3-4 days other times it's might take a full week, sometimes more. I never have problem renting new game because I always leave a spot open a week before a new release. I have a spot open now for Test Drive.

I rented Madden 07 on the first day it was release 8-21. I didn't recieve the game until yesterday 9-2. 2 full weeks!!! But after 10 days, I marked a shipping problem "didn't not recieve" And they shipped another one on 8-31. That one may make it sometime this week. So now I'll have 2 copies of Madden. To bad my 360 died friday.

          Re: Gamefly?

I've been a member for 1.5 years and it's pretty much my one and only source for games.

The turnaround time sucks, but I highly doubt they just process games when they get to it. If that were true, the delivery times would be inconsistent, but they're always the same three days one-way (if Fast Return doesn't kick in).

The only games where I usually see a wait time for are games that are old or rare. Some people must have bad luck or something. In 1.5 years, I've maybe not received the game at the top of my queue two or three times because it was out.

To answer your more specific questions:

If there's a new game I'm really looking forward to, I'll try to ship one of my games back so that they receive it on that Tuesday. Then, they'll ship it that day and I receive it on Friday. It was easier to do before Fast Return as now it can take anywhere between 1-3 days for them to ship my next game out. When it was a flat three days every time, it was a lot easier to do this. I shouldn't complain as it gets me games faster, but I just did.

They receive new games the same time as EB, Gamestop, etc (Tuesdays) even though the release dates on their website are typically Thursdays. They just do that to cover their ***.

I live in Virginia and no problems with shipping. Always on time and I have the Fast Return. I bought Madden for 37 dollars because of the rewards program too.

                It's just so awesome.

That being said they don't have the biggest stock of games... some of the games seem to have Long/Short Wait all the time.

What is this "fast return" that you're all talking about? Is it something you have to sign up for specially, or pay more money for?

All I know is that I live on the East Coast, and when I send a game back, Gamefly usually won't show it as returned for a good 6 to 7 days. Then they will ship me a game and I'll get it three days later. So total turnaround time is usually 10 - 11 days. It's certainly is not unreasonable to think that that can be vastly improved upon.

                    Re: Gamefly?

I live in NY and the shipping service is alright.

There seems to be almost a two week holdover when I send a game back. I haven't experienced it much because I typically send a game back a week before a new game is released that I want badly. I just clear out my Game Q, with the exception of the one game and wait.

If the game is shipped on Monday, I don't get it till Friday.

My process usually consists of: Send game back on Monday. GameFly tells me they got it on Friday. On Monday they ship out new game. I receive it on Friday. Long process, but it still saves me money and I do have the one game to hold me over.

I told yall we need a sticky. We get one of these threads like every month or 2.

It's a good service, worked well when I used it (stopped because I don't play games as often anymore)

There's nothing you have to do to get it except live in an applicable area. Copied straight from Gamefly website:

When you return a game in the mail, the U.S. Postal Service will scan the return and send a confirmation to us. We will then send the next available game in your GameQ BEFORE we have received the game in our warehouse.

We will scan the game a second time when it arrives at our warehouse.

Your GameQ may temporarily show that you have more games out than your plan allows. This is because we are processing your next game via FastReturnTM. Your GameQ will be updated as soon as we receive the correct game in our warehouse.

NOTE: The USPS may not use scanning equipment in all locations. Therefore, not all GameFly members may be able to participate in this service.

Been a member for almost six months now. Been switching between the two game rental and three game rental. I've only been renting 360 games and have not had any problems with waiting. I think I had a game or two at "short list" for a couple days and than it go shipped. And now with the whole new USPS program they got going, it's even better.

Although I do agree, if Blockbuster had one I'd probably jump on that instead because of the location. Hopefully GF opens more warehouses soon.

See, I put a game in the mail on Tuesday, still no confirmation from Gamefly that they've even gotten it (much less sent out my next game). It's a little ridiculous for the amount they charge. Maybe us east-coasters should get a discount.
