Other then the Intercooler and the Fan Stand Im not sure if there is anything else. I havent tried the Fan Stand, no desire to keep my system in a vertical position, but the intercooler seems to keep the hot air pumping out so that helps.

I would recommend the Nyko intercooler, you can find it in pretty much every video game retailer in Canada now. It's about 25 bucks at EB.

Like Vince said, in my sig I have a comparison that was done on both the Intercooler and Fan Stand. The intercooler ended up winning out over the fan stand to keeping the 360 cooler. They both have their positives and negatives.

If you want a heavy duty cooling system, you can get one for $200-$400 dollars that runs coolant throughout the system.

Are these coolers necessary with the newer machines or just the earlier ones?

I would say probably not as the newer units have better thermal protection than the launch systems. Again check out Cmans pics of the old and new Xbox360 system boards.

The launch system needed all the help they can get. Extreme's system just died on him 10 months after he bought it (launch unit). My system is a launch unit as well and still runs flawless. But I will take advantage of my EB warranty though.

Early next year Microsoft will switch ALL Xbox360 CPU's with a much "COOLER" and "LOWER POWER CONSUMING" version. Those will probably show up in the newer 360's around April to June 07. If you have an extended warranty for a 1-2 years you should be covered just fine.

But for now you or anyone else can buy with confidence because the newer systems have most of the critical bugs addressed. This was no different with the PS1, PS2 or Xbox.

Your always the guinea pig when buying a launch system.

MS is finally starting to fix some of the issues that they had in the launch 360's with the latest batches of the system. Like Rod said, come next year the system is going to get an upgrade by the way of getting smaller chipsets that won't make the system get as hot.

I still have a launch system and pray that this thing lasts long enough for the new systems to come out next year.
