Your fondest gaming moment!
Heard this topic on the 1up podcast and it was real funny what some of the guys said. Not necessarily your greatest, just that one moment regarding video games you wont ever forget. Ill start, back in around 1989 or 1990, I was playing Tecmo Bowl on the NES with a buddy. I was the Chicago Bears, and I really cant remember who he was, we think Denver. It was a good, close game. He was up 14 to 10. He had drove to my one yd. line and I stopped him 3 times, he kicked the FG to go up 17 to 10 with like 5 seconds left. On the kickoff return, Dennis Gentry got the ball and ran it back for the TD, I made the extra point sending the game into overtime. Keep in mind this guy was good, but he didnt have alot of success against me in the past. The coin flip was taking place, and he was chewing his nails and he said "whats the point, youll get the ball and drive down to beat me anyway"..sure enough I got the ball and he was pissed, he kicks off, Gentry gets the ball....and proceeds to run to daylight and the endzone AGAIN!...before he could get there my friend gets up turns off the NES and just leaves my house without saying a word.....of course we look back and laugh now, but he was all red in the face and seriously pissed then....Tags: None -

Re: Your fondest gaming moment!
This is easy for me. It was either Christmas '86 or '87 (dates seem to dissipate through the ether of time with me) and I had been bothering my parents for weeks to get me a Nintendo. I was so excited that year that I jumped out of bed at the first sign of light.
My maternal grandmother was alive at that time and living with us and she was already awake and having breakfast. I kept asking her when my parents would be up and generally being a nuisance! I kept looking under the tree and finally when my parents woke up I opened up the biggest box and it was my Nintendo! Well sadly I had to eat my breakfast then. So I ate and opened the rest of the presents while my dad hooked up the Nintendo.
I popped in my first game on my first console. Interestingly enough I didn't choose to start with Super Mario Bros. but rather with Kung Fu. I can remember clear as day sitting in front of the big TV in the living room playing that game and SMB for hours on end. It was such an innocent and fresh moment that sometimes I wish I could relive it.
I know when/if I have a boy I'll let him have his moment in the sun with his first console the way I did with mine.
OK so that's not purely a "gaming" moment but it's a moment in time that I think about every once in a while.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

I wanna say it was NHL '94 (maybe NHLPA '93) on Genesis...I remember fighting in the game, pulling the guys jersey over his head, punching him in the back of the neck, and then he goes down, lying in a pool of blood on the ice. I thought that was the coolest thing ever lolNintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

Re: Your fondest gaming moment!
Ha! I remember getting NBA Jam for the SNES, calling up some guys and 4 of us playing that for 8 hours straight. Still, and probably will be my longest gaming marathon ever.
On the 1up podcast I remember John Davison saying the one of his fondest memories was putting in Ridge Racer into his Playstation for the first time and seeing the graphics. His only thoughts were.."It will never get any better than this."
Real quick, a couple years later playing the same guy, Madden 93 on the Genesis. He was kicking my *** in the first half! It was like 35 to 0. Nothing was working and he was just completing everything. He was having a blast, laughing, just enjoying the beating he was laying on me. 2nd half, its a 180. I was the Oilers, running the run and shoot. I was lighting up the scoreboard like a Christmas tree, I came back and beat him like 56 to 42. He was rabid, saying the "computer" cheated him, and had a "catch up mode" that made him lose.Comment

Re: Your fondest gaming moment!
This one's kind of crazy, but it was one of my fondest moments in gaming. I was 18 or so and had a brain tumor and had to have it removed. During my recovery, I was playing PGA Tour 1996 on my SNES and got a hole in one on the 17th hole at Sawgrass. I was recovering at my parents house and started screaming when I got a hole in one, because I'd never done it before. My parents both came running in thinking something was wrong
Another good memory was the day the TMNT game came out. Me and three of my friends stayed up all night and started at the beginning of the game and went all the way thru it in one night. It was great.Comment

Same for me. Me and a friend were playing that coop and the other team scored a goal. I go skating over and check the guy that's celebrating real hard and he goes flying across the ice. Re: Your fondest gaming moment!
I'd have to say basically all the NBA Jams that came out. My friend would have them and we'd try to unlock all the teams on hard. We went around looking for codes for the unlockable players. Man, we use to play that game so much it was ridiculous. I still have urges to play that game. After he died, gaming never seemed the same. Sometimes I just imagine how much fun we'd have now if he was alive. No telling how many hours we'd be spending or what life would be like now. Life is good, but man it was great back when.......Comment

Re: Your fondest gaming moment!
Hmmmm, got alot of memories.
I remember getting the Atari 2600 back when I was 9 (or 10). My brother and I would play Combat for hours. I can't remember the second game, but it might have been Asteriods or Missile Command.
One of my favorite games in the NES days was Romance of the 3 Kingdoms. I used to write down all the generals I recruited and have the 10 best guys go on a rampage. Took me 2 months to finish the game and I have never finished another RoTK since, even tho I keep buying them.
Tomb Raider 1 was so awesome when I first got it. I was so excited about I wrote a review on the usernet and played it all night. Too bad none of the sequels capture the magic like the first one.Comment

Re: Your fondest gaming moment!
My first two consoles...NES and SNES. I won't bore you with the story, but I got a NES for Christmas in 1986 (great and yet familiar story SPTO) and when the SNES dropped, my parents rented it and my mom (surprisingly) got hooked on 'Super Mario World'. Fast forward a few weeks, and I was with my dad at the BX (Base Exchange...a military "everything" store on bases) and I remember the biggest truth stretching ever (I was only 10 or so), and ultimately convinced him to buy the SNES because my mom really wanted one.
I promptly sat down and ran through most of Mario World, and my mom rarely picked up the controller for the entire lifecycle of the system. However she still plays 'Dr. Mario' on the NES, though it's now the knock-off NES that I picked up for her (there was a thread about it...Generation NExT or something like that).

Re: Your fondest gaming moment!
My brother once scored a 20 yard run in Tecmo Bowl with Roger Craig when I guessed his play. It was unreal at the time.
My bro and I had some awesome sports gaming moments like our whole season we played out in NHL 95 where I was the Flyers and he was the Rangers. The dope traded me Mark Messier for Rod Brindamour. I mean don't get me wrong, Bridamour is a nice player but come on. Lindros ended up winning the Hart trophy only to lose in the conf. finals to my brother who won the whole thing.
Also when every Madden/Gameday/NFL2k game came out we would always play Broncos (me) vs. Chiefs (him) and it seemingly always was a great game.
Sports and video games just go hand in hand.Comment

I know, I felt good if I ever got positive yardage whenever that happened. Remember the NY Giants defense with LT, that dude was on skates in that game!Comment

Re: Your fondest gaming moment!
for me its must be playin nba live 97...
i thought about it the other day because this year is goin to be my 10th anniversary... crazy!!
well, we played the game on the pc, me an my two brothers...
you only needed two buttons for it, shoot an pass, to steal the ball youd just have to bump into the other player...
one played with the only gamepad we had, the other one with the keyboard, an the unlucky third had to play with the mouse which was flat out rediculous.. the players would run constantly when playin with the mouse, unless you hit the spacebar to stop the guy..
the crazy part is:
we all had to sit on one chair to play, an so we accidently kicked the pc...
well, the hard drive got damaged, an i kid you not:
strange things started to happen, like when watching a replay of a nice shoot the ball would not got in in the replay... really weird..
well the pc finally gave up an our dad was furious... hahaa... so much fun..Comment
