I just don't see the Wii being able to provide nearly as good a product that the 360 can. I see sports games from EA (or lack of them) being similar to the support for the Gamecube. Sports titles aren't that important in Japan but are crucial in the U.S. I think that's where the Wii will fail and why I have little interest in the Wii.
Most of the 360 sports titles have gotten mediocre to poor reviews, NCAA and Madden both having lower gameranking scores then the current-gen versions.

While 2K looks like it's adding a high-def coat of paint and calling it a day or flat-out stinking up the joint(MLB). EA is just being EA, and 2K is at it's lowest point yet, both of these factors have hurt the 360 sports lineup.

The wii is going to launch with a sports pack, it's going to have the first party sports titles(MS having none) and SO FAR it's getting support from EA.

Also EA is developing for all three consoles with seperate teams. All of the versions will be unique in their own ways, it's not going to be like last gen where all versions are identical to the PS2 version.

Lastly, the gamecube, despite having a poor sports selection, was not blown away by the xbox, even in the US if my memory is correct.

My wife is currently into Mario Bros, Brain Age, and will be Mario Kart (she's a Kart racing fan). She also enjoys Tetris...but we're awaiting Mario Kart.

No? Then why the f*ck did you run the breathless, hype-infested teaser in the first place?

I agree, earlier in that message he mentions that it was to notify people that video game news could be found at joystiq and then ends it by saying it wasnt meant to bring any increased traffic, seems like he pretty much condradicted himself right there.

I do not think very many people are buying the wii for Nintendo's first party sports games. The PS3 has even more limitations than the XBOX 360 so it is unlikey that multiplatform sports games on the PS3 are going to be much better.

                  Re: Major Next-Gen News Tonight

Hardly any hardcore sports gamers will be buying a Wii solely for sports games, but Nintendo's fun, easy to pick up and family gameplay oriented sports games will be a huge success, despite the simple graphics.

Then, as Erv said, EA's sports games will offer something different from their typical PS2/Xbox/360 versions.

No doubt Tiger Woods will allow you to actually swing the Wiimote to mimmick a golf swing, we've seen the controls for Wii Madden and can imagine Fight Night may offer real punches to be thrown, either with the controllers on their own, or connected to hand straps or gloves of some kind.

How they will go about NBA Live though, I have no idea

                    Admiral:

Good points. I was thinking the other night of how the Wiimote can be converted to traditional sports games, and the only game with which I struggled was hoops.

Football -- We've seen the Madden control scheme, and it looks pretty cool. I think it will be confusing as hell at first, but it won't take long to get a grip.

Baseball -- No-brainer. Swing the Wiimote like the bat. Press button on Wiimote for various types of pitches, snap it toward home plate for pitching, with speed sensitivity. Move nunchuck to get fielder into position, snap the Wiimote toward bases to make the throw.

Golf -- Another no-brainer. Swing Wiimote just as you would a golf club. I think Wii golf will be insanely fun and intuitive, even with the cartoony Nintendo characters. Hot Shots Golf was the best PlayStation golf game, by far, and it had those dopey Japanese anime characters.

Hockey -- Control your skater with the nunchuck joystick, snap or move the Wiimote to pass, shoot or play defense with your stick. You also could aim your shot with the nunchuck joystick while snapping the Wiimote. I think this would be very intuitive for people like me who have played hockey, as the Wiimote almost would feel like the end of the stick in one of your hands.

Tennis -- As big of a no-brainer as golf. Use the nunchuck joystick to move your player in position, swing the Wiimote to swing the racket for serves and shots. This could be so much fun that it would make Virtua Tennis look dull, something I never thought could happen.

But hoops? I'm somewhat stupified on that. Maybe you could use the Wiimote for passing and shooting, just like football or throwing the ball in baseball. It doesn't seem as intuitive as the other sports, though.

                    Your thoughts? Anyone else's thoughts?

P.S.: I want Wii Rugby by EA in the worst way! Rugby 06 might be the greatest sports video game I've ever played and easily my game of the year for 2006.

I also love how the tool mentions early in his post that he holds no ill will toward Joystiq yet uses the rest of the post to trash the site and its management.
