Could Kingdom Hearts be Headed to the Xbox 360?
by Nelson Rodriguez
A senior vice president at Kingdom Hearts developer Square Enix has told the Wall Street Journal that his company intends to offer much more support for the Microsoft console than it did during the past-gen wars. Though the company saw most of its during from its commited relationship with the PS2, Michihiro Sasaki made it clear that all three next-gen consoles would be getting Square Enix's full attention.
Is this a sign of a publisher headging bets, to avoid going down with the ship if any consoles suffer a Dreamcast fate? According to Michihiro, "We don't want the PlayStation 3 to be the overwhelming loser, so we want to support them. But we don't want them to be the overwhelming winner either, so we can't support them too much."
The notion of any of the three big players stumbling fatally on this next round of consoles seems absurd. But then, Sega used to be a major player, and I'm sure they had nothing on paper detailing a "plan to fail" before their last console got stomped and swept off the floor.
Even if all three consoles succeed, to the benefit of all gamers, the owners of our Kingdom Hearts is playing the field. Like a popular cheerleader during senior year, Square Enix wants to keep its options open.
As for Kingdom Hearts specifically, and its arrival on more than one console, Mr. Sasaki admitted to the Wall Street Journal that the company "hasn't yet decided". Any 360 owners out there hoping to get some key-swinging disney-fied RPG action on?
