    My 360 Dilemma

OKay...I had four 360s around launch and all four were bad and returned to the store. I just picked up a new one from Walmart and started getting dirty disc errors within a week.

So I am looking for some opinions...do I risk getting another 360 or wait until next year when the new (cooler) chips will be in the machine?

    Thoughts?

If you've tried to optimize the 360s ventilation as best you could while you kept getting new 360s and can't do any better ventilation-wise, I'd wait. Anyhow, it's better not to have problems (of any kind) if you don't have to.

I had mine out on the fan stand on the floor. I tried to keep it as open as possible and always had the fan running. I don't know if it is a coincidence or not but all of the bad machines came from either Walmart or Sams Club.

If you are having such a hard time getting one that works correctly I would suggest waiting. In the meantime you can pick up a Wii in November. I know you are on the fence about one.

For starters, get it off the floor... that's a real quick and easy way to suck dust and lint up into your system.

Now go take the 360 back and exchange it for a new one, it's only been a week, so Wal-Mart will still let you.

That never occured to me. I thought that having it on the floor would be fantastic for the airflor, but you make a great point. I was debating what to do until I began seeing the postings about x06 demos. I am weak and will be buying a new one in the next week. Oh the horror, the horror.

            Thanks for the input.

Is it on the floor on carpet?

I don't think you should have to buy a new one. At Best Buy, at least, if you return it within the right timeframe, they'll just exchange it for one that works. If Wal-Mart doesn't have this same policy, then if you buy a brand new one, go do it at Best Buy...

I had it on the fan stand on the carpet (mr Plum in the Library with the Xbox)

I returned the broken one to Walmart over the weekend for a refund. I think I will buy the new one from Best Buy or Target.

NEVER EVER PUT AN ELECTRONICS DEVICE WITH AIR INTAKES ON A CARPET. FAN STAND OR NOT.

The carpetting hurts airflow, not to mention potential static problems.
