    Xbox 360/PC Monitor Question

I'm thinking of getting the VGA cable but have a few questions. Do games look that much better on a monitor then a SDTV? My monitor is like this one but 17":

And if it does, what resolution should I put my monitor on to get the best looking picture?

When hooked up to a monitor you can play in hd, given that hd really is just high resolution tv. I used to play on 1280X720, which is the same as 720p. Since I hooked up my hd cable box to my monitor as well, I switched to the hd component cables and I run my 360 in 720p and there is absolutely no difference between running the vga cables in 1280X720 VS running the 360 in 720p. BTW SDTV is 640X480 so yeah it's a huge difference.

The difference is staggering. You'll fire up that XBox 360 for the first time in HD and say "OHH....so THAT'S what they've been talking about!"

In my opinion, you haven't played the XBox 360 until you've played it in High Def.

So basically, if attempting to set up a gaming experience in say a bedroom or den, you would almost be better off space and $ wise to purchase a nice monitor instead of an HDTV to play 360 on?

Question: Could I play the 360 using my laptop monitor? Theres a VGA port in the back but I'm pretty sure its meant for showing the laptop's view on another monitor. If I can, how would i go about doing it?

That port is probably for displaying your laptop on a second monitor. I'm pretty sure most laptops don't have a video input.

Yeah, that's a VGA output on the laptop.

The difference between component/composite and VGA is night and day. Well worth the purchase.

It includes the stereo outputs. You can also use digital audio also.

EDIT: Mine also came with an adapter so you can use your PC's line-in.

I just ordered my VGA cable tonight

Hoping that my 360 looks good on my Viewsonic 19" monitor. Do you guys have any suggestions on settings for the monitor ?? Also, does the monitor hook directly to the 360 (no PC in the mix) ???

                        Thanks

I just went to my computer monitor manfacturer's website and it looks promising. Looks like my monitor is capable of reaching some lofty resolutions (1792x1344) !!!

I'm a noob to this whole thing, does that sound like a good thing ?? LOL

My monitor is a Viewsonic E90F by the way.

It hooks directly to the monitor, no need for the PC. The resolution will vary depending on the monitor, I'm not sure what the VGA cable is capable of. I've got mine on an 17 in LCD and looks great, that 19 in probably blows mine away.. so yes, it's a good thing.

Sheeeesh, my brain is working overtime tonight...LOL

I'd like to relocate my 360 to the same location as my PC/monitor. It's currently hooked up to my 51" rear projection HDTV but it sounds like I will be getting better graphics on my PC monitor, so I'll sacrifice size for quality.

Here's what I'm thinking..... I'd like to have my PC and the 360 share the same monitor. Rather than having to swap cables between the two, I'm wondering if a VGA switch would work. See the link below:

My concern is that this switch may not be compatible with the XBox 360 VGA cable. I'm thinking that since it is not a "HD VGA" switch then I'll lose that piece of it....hope that makes sense !!! Does anybody have a definite answer for this ???
