My 360 came back from the dead

Got some strange news when I woke up for work tonight. My girls brother was over to play some 360, and when he fired it up, he got the three red lights and a grinding sound from the machine. He had no clue what this meant, so he turned it off. After I got up, he told me about it, so I turned it on, and it worked ok. He played for an hour or two and I had to leave, but all seemed ok. Has anybody else noticed this before?

Starting to think it was a good idea to get my 360 from best buy instead of ebay, that way if somethings wrong with it, I can just take it in and get a new one instead of sending it into MS.

Is the machine standing vertical or do you have it laying horizontal? I had issues (noise and vibration) with my flawless launch 360 sitting the unit in the vertical postion. I put the unit on it's side and it's been great.

Heh, well I have that to look forward to...

I played it again this morning, and no problems for about an hour and a half that I played it. No clue what the deal was last nite. My girl and her brother both saw the red death, so I dont know. In fact the grinding noise is what alerted my girl to the problem.

Does anyone know if I can still take it to Best Buy and exchange it with my warranty if its currently working or do I need to wait for it to croak again?

When I first got my 360, a week after release I got three red lights. All I did was unplugged the 360 from the wall for about 10 minutes and I have not had too many problems since then.

I will use my Best Buy warranty tho when the newer 360's come out.

Did you guys know that the orginal XBOX also has a red ring of death? I got it at one point when I was tryna play ASB 05 but it worked fine after a rebooted.

Good to hear that this happened to someone else and your system is still working. A good idea to trade up when the new systems come out.
