G4 as a television network is dead

    http://www.kotaku.com/gaming/g4tv/g4...o-e-207489.php

"Bad news, G4tv fans. All three of you. Comcast is rolling G4tv into E! Networks to consolidate their entertainment networks. More over? It looks like there'll be even less gaming focus.

E! and Style chief Ted Harbert has been given the newly created title of CEO, Comcast Entertainment Group. He will continue to report to Comcast Programming Group President Jeff Shell. G4 President Neal Tiles, who joined the network in September 2005, will now report to Mr. Harbert.
G4's executive staff will move into E!'s Los Angeles offices. Sources said layoffs among the G4 staff are likely, though Mr. Harbert said it's too soon to tell...

"I do agree with the vision of going after young men more than just going after gaming," Mr. Harbert said. "Gaming has been demonstrated as being too narrow."

Thank the lord, this channel was turning suck.

What was once a good niche network, again tried to be too many things like most channels and in the end was nothing at all. Bunch of bad re runs and non gaming shows.

A couple of years ago it was great because it had gaming/tech shows all the time and then it went to crap. The final straw for me was when they took judgement day off the air.

G4TV was actually a network by themselves before they merged with TechTV. I was a fan of the network as well, 3 or 4 years ago. Like you guys said, they tried too hard to give gamers non-gaming related programming that they think they'd like anyway. Trouble with that is that there are plenty of other networks we can watch Star Trek re-runs on. We wanted that network for games, nothing else.

this is what I was telling all the haters would happen. My brother loved techtv, so when they got bought out he was pissed. If no one watches a channel, it'll go away eventually. All corporations are in it for money, not to piss off a bunch of nerds.

Maybe if they had realized that the audience that watched tech tv was different than the 12 year olds that watched G4, all of this would have been avoided. They assumed that they would just be able to absorb tech tv's built in audience and show G4 on a larger scale.

This all went down hill when the last original guy from TechTV left AOTS.

I swear we have one of these "Ahh I remember the good old days of G4 and Tech TV" threads every year.

TechTV was great back in the day (when it was ZDTV too)...i personally didn't care for all the gaming stuff, i liked the tech shows they had (Fresh Gear, Screen Savers, Call For Help, etc)...when they merged they lost all the cool stuff that TechTV had IMO

G4 did have some hot women. Kristen Holt from cheat, the asian chick from the old "top10 or list" show they had, and that Pakistani one from "the feed" on AOTS.
