All the Gamespots in my area (4 of them!) were sold out of this game tonight. Ticked me off, I thought for sure I could just walk in and get it. I'll have to call Best Buy tomorrow and see what they have.

I would rent this first, I'm hearing not so good stuff from others on message boards.Comment

Re: Justice League Heroes (PS2/XBOX)
I'm still gonna give it a try if I can find it today. I don't like renting games because I feel like I'm rushed to play the game. I'm a pretty slow gamer. I'm hearing good and bad stuff on the different message boards, so I try to find reviewers that seem to have similar interests as me. This review for example:
Originally posted by a CBR forum memberi got this game yesterday, i played two levels, the one with supes/batman and the one with MM/Zatanna
I have to say, a lot of the reviewers are being incredibly harsh. to me, the game is amazing. Xmen legends got mostly good reviewed, why not this game? it takes the good things from xmen legends and adds some more.
they get the characters powers and just the way they are down right, something xmen didnt do. For example, when superman blocks, he stands there with his hands on his hips, when MM blocks, he phases in and out, and when batman blocks, he brings his cape up over his face
when superman uses his heat vision, not only does it set the enemy on fire, but actually *pushes* them back, that was refreshing. in xmen legends sunfire could unleash like 7 fireballs at once and that wouldnt happen. the details to the powers and the way you upgrade is cool too, you can make various powers last longer, do more damage, etc. The boss fights for me have been amazing, ive had one with brainiac and some queen bee chick, both surprisingly fun
unlike in xmen, whenever a character with super strenght picks up a big object, they dont walk all slow as hell while carrying it, supes flies casually with cars in his hand, or still walks fast on the ground. theres other realism factors, like in my fight with brainiac, more damage was done to bats than to supes, and there were certain moves that would knock him down and not supes. also the effect of the powers is more realistic. in xmen, i could have cyclop continually blast someone who couldnt even survive one hit. with brainiac, when i concentrated my heat vision on him for a long time(using my entire energy bar) it did a lot of damage.
playing as MM is also fun as hell, he can send out psychic pulses that almost always confuse enemies or stun them like they should, etc.
people, dont let the reviews fool you, this is a great game, a really great game. it is a MUST for DC fans, and if you liked xmen legends, you will like this game also. i dont know why the reviews were so harsh..i mean sure theres some problems, the game is actually pretty difficult sometimes, and yeah the camera angles at certain moments arent the most pleasing, but nothing to really take away from the game, my next level has a team of GL/Flash, and i cant wait to play
any DC fans, get this game, you wont be disapointed, plus, its only 39.99 instead of the normal 50 bucks.

I do agree that some of what I've seen and heard is a bit crazy, like Batman being able to brawl with robots and stuff that can give Superman a hard time, same thing with characters like Zatanna. But how else would it be for this type of game? I want to play this game because of the characters, I've never gotten to play a game with this kind of lineup before and that excites me. If it isn't that good of a game and I simply can't stand playing it, I'll get rid of it on ebay and get 80% of my money back, and that's a fine deal for me. But from what I've seen, the game isn't awful, just not the best game of its genre. I don't play these type games a lot, so I'm thinking it will feel pretty fresh to me.
Let us know what you think if you end up picking this game up. Right now, as much as I like the lineup and want to play this game, I'm rather leary. Yes, that was one big mistake in that IGN review, the game isn't $50...it's $40.Comment

Ouch............IGN = 6.4

Justice League Heroes is a good starting point for a new franchise. Though the game is a bit of a disappointment, particularly for its restrictions on character choice and number of players, it has promise. The sequel, if handled properly, could be considerably better and capable of competing with Raven Software’s Marvel action-RPGs. For that to happen, Warner Brothers needs to let loose a bit and give Snowblind a free pass to utilize any characters and storylines they want.
Though it has some serious issues with game balance and tends to get a bit monotonous, JLH is enjoyable in short spurts. The story is good and the unlockable costumes are pretty cool. The core of the game works well. In fact, if you just admired it from afar, you might mistake JLH for a great game. But the level design is as basic and uninspired as it can get and the enemies are just an endless throng of nameless robots and Martians. Had JLH come out four years ago, it would likely receive high praise. But this is 2006 and the swan song of the current-gen consoles is upon us. There's no excuse in failing to deliver a bigger and more innovative experience.Comment

Re: Justice League Heroes (PS2/XBOX)
I like the game, though I think xmen ledgends 2 has the upper hand. It's a little more refined IMO.
To those that like Superman (Aukevin) I think you will like this game. The minute I got to play with him, I was in heaven. There are things missing from him and he can get hurt, but I think lvling him up and making him a tank will solve most of that.
Dislikes:
1. Not being able to select which heroes I want to team up out of the box.
2. Only having two characters per mission (only on lvl 3 so I'm not sure if I will get 4 as I progress)
3. I want to fly faster or at least give me the option to upgrade it
4. Flash should be faster than he is.
Likes:
1. Xbox version plays game in 720p. Game looks really great (I don't have a 360 so the games I do get to play in 720p I love)
2. Plays much like Xmen ledgends minus all the armor
3. If you've ever played City of Heroes, you'll know what's going on with the power boosts.
4. When playing with Flash, just put the controller down and don't do anything....The comments he makes are funny
Take my opinions with a grain of salt because I love superhero gamesComment

Have you unlocked any of the extra characters or costumes? I was wondering how that works? What do you have to do to unlock?
I found a store that's on my way home that has the game, so I'll probably grab it this afternoon. I'm looking forward to the 720p as well, no 360 for me either

Re: Justice League Heroes (PS2/XBOX)
Flash is fun to play but he is on the fragile side. Forget about Superman getting hurt much. I've built him to be a invulnerable force. You'll see how when you play.
Unlockables... well you simply pick up JLA shields that are around. When you get enough to unlock something you can choose to. So far I've unlocked Aquaman, Hawkgirl, and Hal Jordan. (I've only been able to play with Hal so far) Kinda disappointed that Hal & John Stewart have the same powers.
I think that they don't allow you to choose characters in the beginning, so that you are able to try all of them. Example if I wasn't forced to play Zantana, I would have never taken her...ever. Now, I pair her with any melee guy and go to town.
Currently have Zantana paired with Flash and it's pretty unstoppable.Comment

The beginning your forced to be with a pair, then during the middle of the game you can choose who you want, and then near the end of the game you are forced to be in a pair.Comment

Re: Justice League Heroes (PS2/XBOX)
I finished up the initial level with Superman and Batman. I controlled Superman 90% of the time unless I died and had to control Batman. He was real fun to control. I liked flying around shooting people with his heat vision. The key for me was to take my time. When I got too crazy just attacking I would die. You really got to give yourself a break inbetween ambushes to get your power level back up. It's definitely fun so far.
