    GameCube Essentials

Since I'm planning on picking up the Wii as soon as I can get my hands on one and since it is BC with the GC, I thought I would pick up 2-3 GC games just to catch up on those great games I missed. I don't have a GC, so I'm assuming the classic Wii controller will work with GC games? Anyway, I'm curious what everybody's favorite games were for the GC. I have my eyes on: Rogue Squadron: Rebel Strike, RE4, NBA Street Vol. 3, and possibly GUN.

Metroid Prime is by far the best GC game and it's not even close.

RE4 is just a great game, and RE0 is the best of the old style RE games.

SMS is pretty fun, but not a top tier game.

Eternal Darkness should be near the top of your list. After that, depends on what you like. Pikmin is an enjoyable game and if you loved Super Mario 64 then Mario Sunshine is worth looking at. If you're a Zelda nut there's Wind Waker (though you'd be better off just getting Twilight Princess) and Ocarina of Time Master Quest. If you like FPS's, then by all means get Metroid Prime. The Mario sports titles (namely Golf and Baseball) are also pretty enjoyable. If you want a strategy game that's easily accessible then Fire Emblem is another good one. As you can see, there are quite a few to pick and choose from.

Is it necessary to play Resident Evil before playing RE4?

                    No.

If you love survival horror, you should pick up RE and RE: Zero anyhow, though. I see them cheap ($5-20) EVERYwhere.

Resident Evil 4, from a gameplay standpoint, blows them way out of the water. Especially if you aren't a survival horror fan. Plotwise, it's so way down the line in Resident Evil's canon, it shouldn't matter.

I echo 'Eternal Darkness' as the NUMBER ONE Gamecube game to buy and play. The mood and atmosphere is amazing (I think I added some specific comments in the other thread).

As for 'Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes', I enjoyed it quite a bit. Other then the "Matrix-y" cut scenes, the gameplay and story are still the same (though a few characters have been re-voiced) and the upgrade on the graphics in my opinion is worth it.

get super smash bros if you got 3-4 people to play it with,i think with 4 people it becomes the best mutliplayer game to date.

I can't believe I forgot to mention Paper Mario 2. Easily a top 3 game for the Gamecube.
