Please Help, is my 360 dead or dying?

I put in Splinter Cell: DA, i'm on the part where i broke thru the ice and pulled the guy in the water.

Next thing I know the game freezes. First time i've ever had a game freeze and I have a launch 360. No big deal, I turn off the 360 and try it again. Same spot the game freezes.

Then when I turn it back on again the I get the red lights. My heart is racing at this point. I unplug the 360 and plug it back in and it works again.

This time I put in NBA 2K7 and I can't even start a game. It just freezes right before tip off. I've tried 5 or 6 different times now, but I'm not getting the red lights again.

I can't believe this is happening. Any advice?

I'm going to try another game.

Say the Last Rites and play "Taps." I hope you have a warranty.

    Good luck.

    Take care,

Yep, my launch system died the same way. MS should repair your system for free, though, since it's a launch unit.

            AirLobo's 360, R.I.P

Sucks man, hopefully you get the problem fixed. Especially with all these good games coming out in the next few weeks.

If it's a launch unit, you have until the 22nd to get it fixed for free. (launch units manufactured before 1/1/06)

It appears it might be ok now.

                Here's what I did.

I unplugged everything and removed the HD.

Plugged it all back in and no freeze ups.

I'm sorry to tell you this, it's going to die again, I would call MS, get it fixed.

What EG said, get it fixed now or you'll be paying for it soon. ALL launch systems are being repaired for free. So call 18004MyXBOX and save yourself the trouble.

Not that I don't believe you but all the games are working now, even the Splinter Cell game.

Did something like this happen to yours? Is that how you know it's going to die again?

If you have a launch system which qualifies for a free fix, why in the world would you not get it fixed? You seemed to have gotten it to work for now, but if you had problems, you will have more. If you had one freeze it might have been a freak accident or maybe the game, but when you couldn't get any game to work, that is an indication that your system has real problems. Get it fixed for free, unplugging things isn't going to work every time.

Yep, because mine died, I know several, take that back, plenty of people who had the exact same thing happen. They got it working again, only for it to die a few days later. Last thing you want to do is play with fire and fall out of the free fix period, then the repair is on you.

I can co-sign that. Mine went down the same way. Started freezing on a Wednesday, seemed to clear itself up for a couple of days, then started freezing again on Saturday and finally died on Sunday. Just keep playing as normal and either it will die soon or you'll get lucky.

Mine just died this week in exactly the same way. I called MS on Wednesday and am still waiting to receive the shipping box to return it to them...

For those that went through this process, how long did it take? With standard shipping both ways, I am assuming ~ 3-4 weeks without my 360. Is that a good estimate?

Not a good time for this to happen with all of the good games coming out/about to come out
