    PS2 Longevity...

Would anyone know or have an idea, on how long the PS2 will be around? I have a 360 but might be interested in purchasing the new slimline. I know it's selling for 129.00 but is it worth the money for a second console. Just am uncertain on how long this puppy will stay afloat.

I'd give the PS2 3 more years, seriously. It's not going away anytime soon.

Figure Sony to give the PS2 about another good year of full support with original titles even after the PS3 releases. Like EG said, look for Sony to support the PS2 for a good 2-3 years down the road before giving up on it.

Games are cheaper to make on the PS2 and many of the smaller developers will continue to develop on there until it's feasable for them to develop on the next fen hardware.

I agree, it is here and still has some quality games coming to it. Really though, I haven't played it in months. The only game I do play when I turn it on is Smackdown vs Raw. If that game wasn't coming for the 360, I would have probably bought it for the PS2.

Think about this... there are 50 million PS2's out there...by the end of 2007, at the most there will be 10 million PS3's sold. Sony isn't turning their backs on 40 million people anytime soon. They supported the PS1 for 3-4 years as well.

Final Fantasy XII will be a good buy fo PS2, and I'm pretty sure MGS4 will be on PS2. MLB 08 if u like baseball.

Wish I could sell my PS2 to put money into my next gen stuff, but since I won't have a PS3 any time soon, I need it so I can play some of my fav PS exclusives.

Ehh I think this will be the last really good year for the PS2. After this the only game I know of on the horizon is God of War 2. Multiplatform titles will still be released on it though as well as on the newer consoles.

I agree, at this rate SONY isn't allowing us to sell our PS2's with such great games still being released. I'll get rid of my PS2 once I get a PS3 or if Guitar Hero for the 360 releases before I get a PS3. Now I see why Extreme couldn't get rid of his PS2 since he has had Guitar Hero in his collection. One of the most addictive games to release in our lifetime.

actually, the number usually cited is over 100 million ps2's shipped. Granted, the actual number in homes is lower, but still. And no, not every ps2 owner has had to replace their console 4 times either. Sony will not kill the ps2 like MS did to the xbox.

Getting a PS2 as a secondary system is a really smart idea. OK. The games might not always have the best of graphics and the ones that do are kind of jaggy... BUT... the quality of some of the games are so good that you can overlook the jaggies. Take games like Final Fantasy 13... the Ace Combat Series... GOD OF WAR... Gran Turismo 3... there's a lot of games that are really worth looking at that are 20 bucks... some awesome platformers like the Jax series and psychonauts.... for 120 you're getting a really good system. As much as I loved my XBox, when I worked gaming retail I couldn't really say the XBox had the better gaming library, because honestly, it didn't have the depth that the PS2's had. Sure it had some decent games too and the multi-platform games usualy always looked better.... but the PS2 still had more MUST HAVES. It's how it is.

It would be worth the investment while you wait to see how the PS3 wil fare.
i think the PS3 won't hit stride until next holiday... it's like that when any system. The 360 really is now hitting stride finally. It takes a year. So.. while you're waiting the year, enjoy your 360 and hopefuly your PS2 Slim.

To get the best experience. If you have an HDTV, get Sony Component Cables.

You will need a memory card.

MLB06: The Show is an awesome baseball game.

The Show is great and many people bought a cheaper PS2 just to be able to play the best baseball game ever made.

For football, I would suggest going with NCAA 07. If you want rosters you will need a max drive though. Upgrading your connection to S-Video or component is definately recommended.

I'm leaving for best buy in just over an hour. I need your votes for which game to buy for the PS2 slimline.

                              1. Madden 07
                              2. NBA 2K7
                              3. I know MLB The Show. I kind of would rather wait for next years since baseball in a few months away.
                              4. I already have NHL 07 for my 360.
