    Neverwinter 2 Impressions

I have played the game for two hours now and wanted to offer some brief impressions:

    The good:

*They seem to have stayed true to the Neverwinter tradition and offer great CRPG gameplay.

*The interface is greatly improved and every command is a snap to get to. I am really digging the interface.

*The story is somewhat more interesting than the first game. It is still rather standard, but at least I am intrigued.

*There is a nice selection of races and genders. It was hard to pick what kind of character I wanted to be. Choices are always good.

*The sound is great and the music is spectacular. Very cinematic. Someone has been paying attention to the way LOTR used music. I am also pleased with the voice acting.

*They have encorporated the KOTOR choose your personality dialogue choices. It doesn't have as much of an impact as I would like it to, but it is a nice touch.

*Did I mention the gameplay is great CRPG stuff?

    The bad:

*It took me an hour to get the game going. Most of that time was spent downloading an 87MB patch. Strange, but true.

*In today's gaming world how can you not have objects that you can interact with? There are too many intersting objects and things that I cannot play with in the game world

*The story is interesting, but the game hasn't blown me over. I played a bit of FFXII and while I am not crazy about the gameplay I was really sucked into the world. NWN2 hasn't done that for me yet.

*So far the camera is challenging to deal with.

    The Ugly

    * ^%$#$#@!!! the graphics are behind the times. The game looks like a better version of NWN. After so many years this was the best they could do. I know Oblivion is a different kind of RPG, but come on...couldn't they have tried a little harder. The animations are somewhat canned and the faces/bodies are pathetic by today's standards. I am very disappointed in this.

I played some more this morning and have really been enjoying the game. I am over the lack of graphical leap. This game really seems to have a lot going for it.

    Re: Neverwinter 2 Impressions

    My only complaints are:

    - I wish I could move the camera around and not have it center on the characters.

    - Can I not select multiple party members and issue orders to all of them at once? It's annoying to babysit each character one by one. If you let the AI take control, they do dumb things like run back and forth between enemies getting AOOed.

    - I think the graphics are perfectly fine...But the performance isn't very good at all. For a game that just looks "fine," it should probably run better.

Othen than that, it's the kind of RPG that I love.

The game runs very poorly on a wide array of systems. Tons of people are complaining about laggy play. It's ridiculous.

Wow. That's not a problem I have had with my 7900gs..I wonder if it is my card or the 2 gig of ram that helps.

Great game. I have not played a great RPG game like this in 5 years. Make sure you have a new/great video card however.
