How many of you use that or the fan stand? Just a poll to see who uses what. Thanks.

360: To cool or not to cool
I am on my 2nd 360 (not complaining at all--I expect things when the system is new--I got a brand new one from best buy w/their warranty). I have the intercooler, but I read the thread here and it has me thinking about whether or not to use it...

Re: 360: To cool or not to cool
No intercooler...I just put it on top of my little entertainment center by itself so it doesn't get any additional heat from something else, and has better air flowComment

No fans. I have my 360 alone on a well ventilated shelf. One tip I did pick up: if its horizontal it sits very close to the ground so you can put a little something under the 4 rubber feet to prop it up a little so you get more air flow under the unit.Comment

Re: 360: To cool or not to cool
I had the intercooler on since January when it released. But I ended up taking it off almost 2 weeks ago after all the crazy talk and pictures of fried intercoolers.
My 360 is a launch 360.Comment

Re: 360: To cool or not to cool
I was using an intercooler, but my launch system still ended up breaking down, so I ditched it and bought the 2-year MS service contract. I now have my system vertical on an open stand, next to my TV.XBL: Mean Greene

Re: 360: To cool or not to cool
On my last 360 which lasted me 11 months I didn't use a intercooler and it had maybe three freezes. Than Wednesday I had a hardware failure.
The new one I got yesterday I am using without a cooler as well. I see no point to it, especially if you have a warranty.Comment

Re: 360: To cool or not to cool
I bought and used an intercooler for a couple months. It would very occasionally cause my console to get the red rings of death. If I turned my 360 off and unplugged it, it worked fine.
I took it off after seeing some of the threads here. I have had no problems or lockups since. My recommendation is if you have room, sit it vertically and keep a couple of feet all the way around it clear for maximum air flow and ventilation. If you keep it clear and make sure the vents have room to breathe you should be alright. I will say that this is the first console that I've ever had a warranty for, so maybe think about that.Favorite Sports Teams
