    Selling on ebay need pointers

Hey fellas I'll be making my first ebay sale when I get my PS3 on 11/17. I need some advice/tips from the experts. Here are some questions and feel free to add any questions you like if you're in my situation:

    1) How easy or difficult is it to start selling on ebay?
    2) How do you add pictures to your ad?
    3) Any tips on selecting a price?
    4) Is it best to put a minimum price guard?
    5) Is it normal to ask the buyer to pay for shipping, although most PS3 preorders are shipping free?
    6) What are the basic buyer scams to avoid minus the one's from Nigeria?
    7) Is it proper to ask the original buyer to only sign for the item?

    That's it for now.

p.s. Mods please move this thread if it's in the wrong forum.

Re: Selling on ebay need pointers

    1) Its easier if you're hooked up with PayPal and are able to recieve funds from people rather than just being able to send funds out. The auction is really simple to set up.

    2) eBay allows you to upload pictures from your computer to use. You can select a picture to use for the gallery picture, which is displayed in the list of auctions.

    3) Since its the PS3 and it will be in very short supply this holiday season, I would start it at the retail price, maybe $50 lower, but no matter what you do, it will be higher than what you paid for it.

    4) IMO, you won't need it.

    5) Yes, but if you want you could include S&H for free. eBay lets you do whatever you want with shipping, whether if its for free, flat rate, or based on where they live.

    6) No idea. I've only sold my Xbox and games, but I haven't had any trouble. I only accepted PayPal, so I would recommend that.

    7) I have no idea.

      1. Very easy, but it stinks having zero feedback, you have to start somewhere. Setup a Paypal account before starting.
      2. Pictures can be uploaded through eBays picture services or you can point to your own HTML
      3. Selecting a price -> It's an AUCTION. Let it work, if there is demand and people can find your auction it will sell at market value.
      4. You can put a Reserve Price if you are very hesitant, but it costs a lot extra.
      5. Yes, it is normal to put a shipping price. FREE Shipping is an incentive to pick that auction over a different.
      6. Avoid anything overseas for a high dollar item, unless you have A LOT of communication with the person. Don't ship until you have the money. Only accept Paypal from overseas buyers.
      7. Nothing you can do about who signs for it. If you are really worried, when shipping choose SIGNATURE REQUIRED from FedEx or UPS.

EXTRA: To sell a PS3 preorder, you must have a minimum Feedback.

BTW: I have sold a PS2, xBox 360, books, tons of other stuff. I shipped to Vietnam, Japan, England, Italy, Canada, and worked a pack and ship store if you have any more questions.

Is there a minimum feedback rating required to list on Half.com?

Although, bryan, I thought the eBay requirements were only for pre-order auctions.

              Thanks fellas for the feedback.

At Bryan_OS, you mentioned about having a minimum feedback to list a pre-order. Does that apply if the PS3 is in my possession and I'm ready to sell?

Also someone else mentioned about setting up a Paypal account. Does it count if I have used Paypal to purchase items from ebay.

If it is in your possession so far they have no rules on feedback.

If you have bought with Paypal, you can sell with Paypal.

Re: Selling on ebay need pointers

Try to find somebody with good feedback to sell if for you. People are skeptical about buying from no-feedback people as it is, but with a PS3 I think they would be over-catious. It certainly isn't a requirement, but I think it would help quite a bit.

Re: Selling on ebay need pointers

so what is your feedback score right now? The feedback limit ebay has for ps3 preorders are important in this case, even if you actually will have the ps3. Most people won't trust buying something like that from a noob with a small score. It's almost certain that you'll be only one of many new zero feedback sellers with ps3's.

It's just from all the scams going around. And then you're mentioning free shipping. It'll just look odd, and I think you'll see that your auction will have few takers until you get sniped and it ends for less than you probably want. That's why you'll want a reserve price and shipping price set.

I'm not saying it'll be impossible to sell a ps3 on ebay in your situation, but it'll be harder than if you had a higher feedback rating. You certainly won't get as much as someone else with a better rating.

Also, if you have a paypal account, be careful. As a new seller who's gonna sell a $600 ps3, they might see the large transaction as suspect and freeze your funds until it gets cleared up. It's something they've sometimes done to some people who usually have little to no activity on their accounts, who suddenly transfer like $500-$1000. I've had a friend who sold one laptop on a new account, and got his account frozen because it was deemed as "unusual or potentially high risk" behavior.

Thanks BK for the honesty I appreciate it. I have never sold anything on ebay so selling my PS3 would be my first transaction.

If I can't sell it on ebay I'll probably end up keeping it. If I keep then me and Backbreaker can hook up online on Playstation Nation

Re: Selling on ebay need pointers

Rodster, if you don't sell it on eBay, I would recommend using Half.com. If you just want to sell the PS3 by itself, listing it on half.com is easier. All you do is type in the UPC and your product is pulled up. I think those eBay requirements (feedback minimum, no buy it now option, etc) are only for auctions that are done during preorders. If you were to wait until you actually got your PS3, I don't think there are any requirements, but I am not 100% sure.
