My father is talking more and more about how the high definition televisions are going down in price. He just remarked about it the other night talking about after Christmas, they'll practically be steals. I hope he continues to have that mindset after I show him which one he should get. Definitely curious to know where he'll be putting it. Not really into getting this until a few years from now when price goes down. I most likely will be getting a stand-alone player anyhow. If I can find one for a serious steal, I'll probably get one.

$200 for a HD-DVD player and free movie. A pretty decent deal from the get-go, if you ask me. Especially with HD-DVD's current lead on blu-ray in content (the gap is closing, though). The only thing preventing the player from being a shoe-in success is history of gaming add-ons.

The HD-DVD has Universal in its pocket, for now, but blu-ray's studio support still edges it out.

But this is a great alternative to getting a $500 stand alone player. If blu-ray wins out I can always pick up a PS3 and get blu-ray and some gaming for a player for blu-ray.

I'm getting one tomorrow if I can find one.

The second generation HD DVD players that are coming out at the end of they year will still be the same price as the ones out now. I don't think they would consider droping the price until the end of next year. Especially since it already half the price of Blu-Ray.

I feel you. That's definitely the way I got my PS2. Just wait til they start decreasing. I think it might be a little longer for the drop but when it comes, if it's reasonable, I'm there.

I'll just wait for the prices to come down. I'm not impressed by BR or HD-DVD yet.

I am out of the HD player game until there is a clear cut winner. To give you an idea of where I am coming from, we had 3 betamax players. Though strangely enough I was able to sell the 3 for $1,300 3 years ago.

Eventually MS will release an updated 360 with a built in HD DVD player and HDMI support.

                    Just watch.

That won't be anytime soon & IMO this is where Microsoft has dropped the ball. Right now unfortunately you aren't getting the FULL HD-DVD Experience. You might be getting gr-8 HD-DVD picture via Component or VGA, but your not getting HD-DVD Surround Sound. For some that may not be a problem, but for people like me, SOUND is just as important than VIDEO.

All HD-DVD Movies will output in DOLBY DIGITAL via the 360 ADD-ON if your running your 360 Audio via an Optical Wire. In order to get DOLBY's NEW HD SURROUND SOUND (which are what HD-DVD's are encoded) you must have your Player connect via HDMI or ANALOG INPUTS.

This is why I chose a Stand Alone Player(HD A-1) People will say there's no difference in sound. Trust Me there's alot of difference in Sound, when listening to a movie in TRUE HD or DOLBY DIGITAL PLUS.

I will say this, HD-DVD Movies look beautiful & the difference between SD-DVD is tremendous. For those ready to take the plunge I say if SOUND isn't a BIG THING go for-it.

BTW the HD-DVD Add-On will UPCONVERT all your SD-DVD Movies to almost HD Quality which isn't bad either...

If I already have a dvd player with an HDMI output is it really worth 200.00 bucks to buy the 360 HD-DVD player?

I've read on various news reports out there that LCD TV prices are expected to drop another 25% next year in addition to current price sliding. They were spectulating that a 32" LCD TV could be $500 by Christmas 07. I'm thinking about making the plunge if there is a great deal after Christmas this year (or Superbowl time) but we may wait one more year.

The one thing that sucks is that if we get the TV, we also want to get the HD receiver box as well (and PVR with it if they go on sale). The combined price is still a bit high. Amazon.com has some great deals going on right now (http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=sr_nr_n_...3144201&page=1). They are slashing prices and offering free shipping. The 32" Samsungs have been getting tremendous reviews (3251 and there is a newer one too) and they are just over $1100 with free shipping.

If your not gonna watch HD-DVD Movies, then maybe not. I will tell you this the UPCONVERT Software in the HD-DVD Add-On will be better than the UPCONVERT software in the DVD Player you have know, unless you have the OPPO Upconverting DVD Player.

Movies will definitely look better from the ADD-ON than the DVD Player your using right now.
