    PS3 Glitches/Bugs Thread

Very interesting read on the issues that have been discovered so far:

"As with any game system launch, once the honeymoon in enjoying all the sexy new games and delectable hardware facets has run its course, the problems begin to arise. Whether it's the PS1's flip-it-to-play-it overheating issue, the Xbox 360's Red Circle o' Death, or the PSP and Nintendo DS's burnt pixels, hardware manufacturing oversights or technical blunders will often mean that some people will not be happy with their new systems."

This kind of concerns me since the TV I'm gaming on is a CRT:

"Most HDTV sets are capable of both 1080i and 720p, but a number of CRT HDTVs as well as some older HDTVs models do not support the in-between image format."

Big bummer for some. Lucky for me my TV supports 480p/720p/1080i. Still debating on getting this system.

I've decided i'm going to cancel my preorder. With the PS3 preorder backlash that's taking place on ebay and all the technical issues the are beginning to surface on the PS3 it's not worth the hassle IMO.

If your HDTV ACCEPTS 720P you should be OK.. What really suxs is there's NO SCALER within the PS3... WTF... Your claiming to be REALLY ushering in the HD-Gaming ERA with the PS3, yet you cannot add a SCALER in your system

i'm not exactly sure on this but i have a toshiba hd crt that displays 480p and 1080i, if its sent a 720p image the tv converts it to 1080i, so i'm sure that it works this way as well with the ps3 but don't quote me on that, maybe some tv's don't do this but i suspect most do, kind of like mvp2005 for the xbox, it was in 480p and 720p, when i played the game on my crt it converted the signal to 1080i, so hopefully for those with crt's it works this way.

It works that way for the 360. If the PS3 sends out a signal your TV doesn't accept it will downgrade the signal so you're can accept it. Now to be fair to Sony we don't know if this can be patched in a firmware update but they have been hush on the subject.

Thanks for posting this information! I was going to buy a PS3, but my HDTV doesn't support 720p. Why would Sony do this? Anyone have any insight on this decision?

I think I'll stick with my 360 and probably pick up a Wii for my second system in a few months.

                Thanks again!

No problem, I hope that they fix this via firmware upgrade or something since it's not good.

Actually this is a Sony Standard. They do it with their HDready TVs. Usually they support 480p and 1080i. When a 720 signal is sent to the TV it downgrades to 480p. Don't expect Sony to fix this. They are hoping you upgrade to one of their HDTV's that supports 720p and above. It's not a question of Sony not putting it there by mistake,it's more intentional then most of us might think. Sony first and foremost is a Hardware company. They know exactly what they are doing.

                      Re: PS3 Glitches/Bugs Thread

I'm sure this will be fixed in a firmware update.

Further, all new HDTVs will have both 1080i and 720p on them, and a growing percentage also support 1080p.

Glitches like these are to be expected - the major reason why I have not purchased a next-gen console yet, whether it's waiting for M$ to cool off the 360 and make the HD-DVD drive internal, or Sony to iron out the many issues with its console (I heard that the PS3 is very, very hot, but maybe that's just a rumor).
Been gaming since the Atari 2600, and hells no I won't stop!!!

One of the mods who kept his PS3 and posted in the impressions thread said the PS3 is virtually silent also it's no where near as hot as the 360.

LOL I'm first trying to score a pair of Sony component cables which no one and I mean no in my area has in stock.

I'm off to Sarasota in the morning to BB and pick of CoH (PC) and I'll see if they have some in stock. One thing I'm glad Sony is doing is putting a 1 year warranty on their system. Maybe Microsoft will do the same in the future
