Can anyone help me with this???

1st let me start off by saying my brother in law tried connecting straight from his modem but no matter what he did it would come up saying (Adapter not connected)

2nd I told him to try and connect his modem to cpu then from the cpu to system. Well that made the adapter show as connected . But then he couldnt get passed the IP connection. No matter how many times he reset the modem it would always fail the IP test. He even put them in manually still no go.

3rd He bought a router cause he said it sends more signals. SO the router get passed the IPproblem but wont pass the DNAS part. And thats where he is stuck at now.

ANyone have any idea what else can be done???
