Anytime I plan on doing a firmware update I always plug my system into a surge protector or UPS (battery Backup). I suspect this problem will get worse and I feel Sony has the most to lose because they have said updates will be dished out on a regular basis like the PSP.
Rod, years ago, I used to worry updating a BIOS on a mobo or even my Graphics cards. Back then if you screwed up, there were cases of not being able to go back to the previous BIOS configuration.

Yes, I agree with SONY having the most issues with these updates. Look at how many PSP they bricked due to homebrew. On one end I don't blame them since they want to cutdown on piracy which is causing them to lose money bigtime. On the other hand, bricking $600 systems due to people not even modding their systems could be bad news.

the fact that they send you a new system & a box before requesting you to send back yours is a GREAT thing.. sony and MS should follow suit... no reason to have people waiting 1-2 weeks with nothing when u can just send em a refurbed and a new box to ship out the messed up one... but then again i guess there are some dummies that wouldn't send back their broken unit at all lol

Quick update on the replacement that they are supposed to be sending me.

I just checked and the delivery changed to upsred( which is overnight shipment) and got a tracking number. So if i get the wii by tomorrow, that would be the absolute fastest turnaround time i have ever experienced when receiving a replacement part.

              Welp,

it took them about 1 1/2 days to get me the new replacement. I am shocked at how fast that was.

The new wii has all the firmware updates and everything, so i am ready to go.

Finally getting into the wii shop...w00t

UGH... just opened my new Wii x-mas morning and I got the dreaded 110213 error. Wost part is this thing has been sitting in my house for two weeks. I told me wife we should have tested it out, but she thought it was just a scam to let me play it early.

This sucks... I guess this means all the Wii sports i've been playing this morning has been for nothing since I need a new one? I'm itching to play Zelda too, but I don't want to waste my time!

You can play if you have an SD card at home, just save to that.

Hmmm... I was able to save the data to an SD card, but then I couldn't copy it back to my Wii internal memory. Didn't get a very helpful message either... just said "The data was not copied". Gee thanks!!!

Tried to reformat my Wii, but I still get the connection error. Going to give Nintendo a call in a bit... just hoping they are not flooded with calls today.

If he was not able to update the firmware on it then he wont be able to use the saves on his SD card once he gets a new one with updated firmware.

What were you trying to do? Last week I got a couple error codes when I was trying to get onto the Shop Channel and that error code number looks like the one I got, but I can't remember.

Two thumbs up for Nintendo customer service!!! Talked to them this morning and as suspected I need a new console. It has already shipped and I should get it by Thursday or Friday. No charge too which is AWESOME!!! I really wanted to get it in time for my New Years Eve party and now i'll have it.
